  • Your 2011 Line up

What is your full strength 2011 lineup?

  • #2
I'm not going to venture a full line up because it will do my head in and Brian is in for a tough time of it especially when it comes to the back row. Here are what I consider the certainties ...

    1. Mini
    2.
    3.
    4. SKD
    5. Perrett
    6. Carney
    7. Pearce
    8.
    9. Friend
    10. Ryles
    11. Myles
    12.
    13. Anasta
    14.
    15.
    16.

      1. Minichiello
      2. Linnett
      3. Leilua
      4. SKD
      5. Perrett
      6. Carney
      7. Pearce
      8. Kennedy
      9. Friend
      10. Ryles
      11. Myles
      12. Aubusson
      13. Anasta

      14. Masoe
      15. Riddell/Watts
      16. JWH
      17. Cherrington

      18. Cordner
      19. FPN
      20. Conn

It all depends on injuries and performance really, but almost all of these players should get a go.

FPN is an international, can't see him donning the mighty Bluebags kit anytime soon.

          Agree.

We do have a second rower problem though.

How do you pick from the available:

          JWH
          Conn
          FPN
          Mose
          Cordner
          Cherrington
          Symonds

JWH and Conn are definites as they are able to switch from prop or second rower. Sniffing this spot would be Mose.

Leaves the last spot for FPN really but sniffing the spot would be, Cordner, Cherrington, Symonds.

The last bench spot would be Riddell/Watts.

Mose would be exclusively a front rower.. I agree though we have a log jam for backrowers and for that reason I think re-signing Braith on $300K+ to play lock may not be money too well spent.. That may be more useful on a fullback on a seasoned front rower to replace Ryles. I hope Tom Symonds can kick on as he has good playmaking skills and could be able to slot in at lock.

                This is funny.

The log jam is obviously in the forwards, Conn and Mose could find themselves starting in FG or filling in the numbers at Newtown and just about anywhere in between. They can be quality players but may struggle purely from Smith trying to balance the squad dynamics.

FPN will start at lock (ankle surgery permitting)

Braith is a second-rower, he played there most of last year and will do the same this season.

The way Conn started finished last season he deserves to be in the run on side ......I think Kennedy should be ready for it too

Hard to take a spot away from conn. the guts and effort he put in last season was phenomenal. i think cherington has greater potential but will have to prove himself.

It will really come down to trial form, and who has put in the hard yards over the off season.

For the backline, it's a simple case of too many good players. There are 2 positions up for grabs, a centre spot, and a wing spot. Phil Graham will be out injured. Justin Carney, BJ Leilua and Kane Linnett are all good enough. I can't split them. Every combination of those three looks good. The best? No idea.

For the forward pack, same again. There is 1 starting spot and 3 bench spots up for grabs, assuming FPN, Anasta, and Myles are the backrow, with Ryles at prop (MAubs being out with injury), and Riddell occupies the utility spot on the bench. That leaves us with Kennedy, Masoe, Conn, JWH, Cherrington. Who misses out? To be honest, it'd have to be Cherrington, unless he lights the world on fire in the trials. JWH has shown how good he'll be. Ditto Masoe and Kennedy. Conn has done a fantastic job, and his work is underrated. Again, it's a dilemma.

Two difficult problems, but problems I'm sure Smithy won't mind having.

I'd rather see Friend getting to the point where he can play the full 80 and have this line up. And Braith can fill in at 9 if need be.
