Am I missing something here, or can someone fill me in.
First of all, how the media gets a hold of this has to be from Anasta's party. I don't see how HQ would come out and say "hey guys guess what, we aren't singing our captain lol". That just brings defamation toward yourself.
Secondly, did HQ not say to Anasta that it is due to salary cap pressure? Sure this line is pretty much cliche now, however, it was reported today that Anasta is receiving more then $450k. One can safely assume that does apply a bit of salary cap pressure.
Thirdly, reading the reports I don't see anywhere that it is stated that HQ are shopping Anasta around. The only certain thing that has been said by HQ is that Anasta will be here 2011 (when the whole Cowboys negotiations started).
Finally, HQ acknowledges that Anasta wants to be at the Roosters and are more then happy to have him here. Although not on the same pay packet. Hence the line "We won't stop you from getting more money at another club". I interpret that as HQ saying "We are more then happy to have you at the club, although you wont be getting 450k a year anymore. If you do get an offer of that much at another club we won't stop you from receiving that much money". A selfless act by the club.

but unfortunately, he hasn't done enough over a long period of time to justify his salary and thankfully management (hopefully on the back of some common sense from Smith) have finally woken up

Look at it in the scheme of things. That one play could have been the end of the season.
If a play like that comes up again who do you want to handle that sort of situation??? one of your best players.
i am not saying that play alone dictates his "worth", but that clutch play was worth alot more to the club financially than if it had of missed .
Thats why they are called the Money men.

What I think he is disillusioned and hurt about is that the Roosters aren't willing at this stage to even offer him something on reduced payments.
The line you've referred to: 'We won't stop you from getting more money at another club" I've understood differently. To me it is the management saying that "look, we might keep you on something much reduced though we don't give a shit if you run off somewhere. Frankly, your not really a feature in our future plans." Hardly what I'd call selfless.
Anyway, things well settle themselves eventually. I just hope the fallout doesn't impact what looked to be an incredibly promising season in 2011.

Cindy, i think you are almost there, the club will definatly offer him a contract, the clubs talk so far indicates it will be heavily reduced.
This will test the validity of Braith's comments on taking a pay cut and wanting to finish his career at the Roosters.
