also comparing the Anasta situation to the fitzy one is way off the mark, Fitzy never whinged or cried into his soup, in fact anyone lucky enough to sit down and chat with the bloke would know he wanted to play in England, but he didnt want to go there as a busted 34yo retiree picking up his superfund, he wanted to be able to compete and excel to his lofty standards.

If the club really wanted to keep him,a one year incentive deal for 2012 is all it would take...

haha the telecrap quoted me in the 'fan fury' article...

        anyway, new article

        http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/n...-1225993394768

Braith Anasta has hoisted up the For Sale sign on his career at Bondi.

The Roosters captain, who is off contract at the end of the year, has been left "confused and disappointed" after the club's chief executive Steve Noyce told him that any offer of an extension would not be forthcoming for several months.

He is not alone. Roosters' greats Russell Fairfax and Artie Beetson led a chorus of condemnation over the treatment of Anasta after a season in which he led the Roosters to a grand final.

Anasta, 29, is willing to take a pay cut to play out his career with the club but the former Test player believes he will have to look elsewhere.

Asked whether that means he is on the market, Anasta told The Daily Telegraph: "You could say that. That's the natural process for any player. If you're unsure about you're future you have to consider other options and [my manager] Greg [Willett] will take care of that."

Although hurt by the saga, the Souths junior doesn't want sympathy, insisting it is a reality that all players face.

"I didn't want it to play out like this," Anasta said. "I didn't want to be looking elsewhere, but it looks like I may have to. I'm a bit confused about it all. I don't know what to do or say."

Start of sidebar. Skip to end of sidebar.

End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar.

North Queensland Cowboys tried to sign Anasta last year for 2011, but the Roosters moved heaven and earth to kill off rumours the skipper was unwanted.

While there is no suggestion Anasta won't see out his contract, the latest development has fans and former players fuming.

Fairfax is adamant Anasta is in career-best form and deserving of a new deal.

"I'm in shock considering the back half of the season he had last year," Fairfax said.

"I never saw Braith perform better on and off the field. He led from the very front and was an inspiration to the side."

Beetson, who helped to lure Anasta to the Roosters from Canterbury-Bankstown in 2006, was scathing in his assessment.

"Nothing that they do there surprises me these days, particularly after what they did to Fitzy [Craig Fitzgibbon]," the Immortal said. "They've disappointed me with a lot of aspects over the last five years, even what they did to [former coach] Ricky [Stuart]."

Former Roosters coach Brad Fittler said Anasta can force the club's hand by delivering on the field.

"I just just think he's got to start the year well," Fittler said. "It's great motivation for him, so if he turns the focus on to his footy he'll do great."

Anasta earns more than $450,000 a season but is willing to take a pay cut to finish his career with the club.

And despite the snubbing, the veteran forward insists there is no ill-feeling.

"It's just the way the rugby league cycle and the salary cap works. I'm no different to anyone else. There's no bad blood," Anasta said.

None of the NRL clubs that the The Daily Telegraph contacted showed immediate interest in signing the former NSW Origin five-eighth.
Starting to get the shits now with both sides. As others have said, playing out contract negotiations in the media is no way to act professionally. He's said repeatedly he'll take a pay cut, well go and tell Noyce that, get some indication of whether a reduced contract is possible, if it is stop whinging and wait, if not, then go find a new club.

I was originally pissed off at the club but if he's going to sook every second day in the media he's going to lose a lot of the support he originally had, and give Politis and Smith the shits.

Again, hopefully this is all a big beat up by his manager and the club will offer him a reduced contract.

That sounds very good to me and hopefully what ends up happening! With Anasta willing to take a pay cut and with that exemption to kick in 2013, Braith will cost us sweet f**k all!! The Roosters can have their cake and eat it too, by keeping both Anasta and our promising young players cause the salary cap will go up 2 to 3 million in 2013. Back end deals for next year cause we can easily cover it in the 2013 cap!

Anasta will have to take a large paycut. We have many talented youngsters who we will need to secure shortly. I don't want to see him go, but I don't want to lose talent which will form our core for the next 5-10 years

It is not safe to count on cap raises that may or may not happen. We haven't even got the new TV deal yet. You don't know what year they will kick in, or how much, if at all.

overpriced is overpriced, whether the money can be squeezed in in under the cap or not

Once we start announcing the re-signing of a few young guns, hopefully the penny drops with those clowns at the daily bullshitter and a few forum members as well as to why this decision was made and the timing of it.

                  Chook.

Your caution is wise but i think that it is a safe bet that the salary cap will rise significantly and it will kick in for 2013. As you point out i don't know that for sure but am 99.99% sure.

Overpriced now yes, but with a pay cut which Braith said he is willing to do, plus with the $200k exemption under the cap to kick in 2013, it makes keeping Braith a more attractive option!

I have to say though it is poor form from Braith allowing his manager to orchestrate this crap with the tellucrap to put pressure on us to sign him up now and not wait a few months like Noyce said.

time to actually deliver something with your play Braith

and just being a good captain won't be enough
I think the field goal was a pretty good delivery.....

he needs to deliver value by having his playing contribution match his salary, which it hasn't done for years.

he's had a charmed ride from the media for a long time, and has now moved into a space where his captaincy is spoken about more than his playing performances

I admit that Braith's playing contribution was not matching his salary in 06 and 07. In his defense he was playing injured in 06 and had 2 shit coaches in 06 and 07 so the whole side was going crap!! He had a great year in 08, 09 was good until injury half way through the year. In 2010, mainly the second half of the year he was very good.

You can not underestimate his value as captain.

He was having a bit of a charmed ride from the media in his days at the dogs and late last year and now but he did earn a fair bit of it. But, don't forget he wasn't getting a charmed ride from the media when he was given the most overrated player award in 06 and 07! The media turned on him BIG time when he joined us!!
