It's looking like this year might be the last for Anasta, Ryles and Mini. Thats alot of experience.
Even if we do keep Anasta. Ryles and Mini aint even on much, so well have to release some young gun like Moseo,Linnett, etc.. which i'd rather see Anasta go.
Really dont want to see Moseo, Kennedy, BJ at another club.

I dont want Anasta to leave but it's the right move.
We already have someone like Tom Symonds, who would be a great replacement at lock for Anasta.

Lets be realistic - aside from Kennedy (who i project can do it in the future), we don't have one player that will fill Ryles' shoes in terms of workrate, defence and leadership.

I'm hoping Kennedy can mature quick smart otherwise we are up shit creek.

As soon as he went to the papers to get himself a bit of exposure, he lost me.
Captain or not, it is very unprofessional of him. Happy if he accepts any lesser offer we give but I won't lose sleep or sign any petition if he packs his bags looking for more cash. There is plenty of depth in the positions he can play. Nate will make a great inspirational captain.

I can understand and can appreciate the business side of this.
But is it Anasta being a money hungry bum, I think not, more like Willett.
Do I want Anasta to stay, most definitely, but I think a pay cut should be part of that.

Is Anasta out there putting himself on the papers etc, I think not.

I agree that Willet is largely behind this but surely he runs this past Anasta who ultimately 'signs off' on it.

Bloody good thread, Fletch. Got us all thinking of the challenge for the Roosters leadership team!
For mine, we could most afford to lose FNP, followed by Anasta and then Ryles.

most people say mini, ryles and FPN. I tend to agree for the aforementioned reasons - ryles (age), mini (ditto), FPN (plenty of backrowers therefore not a necessity). having said this, I would keep both ryles and mini ahead of anasta personally. its all about what you can cover. we all know how much depth/quality we have in the halves/backrow (anastas positions) whereas atm at least there isnt really a readymade replacement for mini at fullback and considering both ryles and mini arent on anywhere near as much money as braith and are still performing, would be the wiser choice to retain.

As for FPN, he will never command more than 200-250k odd a season even in his prime and is a good leadership figure imo especially to the young polynesian boys. therefore he too probably bodes as a better retention option than braith. The others (Kennedy, SKD, Linnett etc) i would keep at all costs because they are the cream of the crop.

Even though his form has been good, realisitically the primary thing we would miss from braith is his leadership. 450k and a couple of our best young players is a high price for 'leadership' considering we have players who are ready to step into leadership roles like myles, pearce and even maubs. Maybe not quite anasta but i think smith has the experience and ability to provide enough 'leadership' and he is exempt from the cap

So i say re-sign all these guys first then see what we have left for braith and try and beef it up with third party payments/post-career positions etc if he truly is that valuable (which i think he may well be). The way he has taken it all to the media and shed such a negative light on the situation is a worry in my eyes at least.

I don't want us to lose every experienced player on the roster.

We need riddell for Watts injury cover. Ryles only signed a 2 year deal didn't he?? So will be gone end of this year! FPN has come on leaps and bounds in the past 2 years. Shouldn't be cut!!

This will be Ryles' last year I think.
Mini, not sure. Can't be on too much money and his career might be prolonged by having so much time off, all depends on form. Could be 1 more year, could be 3.
I'd also lose Piggy and Conn before any of the young blokes.

Anyway, lose Ryles and Piggy and give Anasta a pay cut.

The interesting part of this thread to me is the number of people who are prepared to let Mini go when the whole Anasta whinge seems to be about loyalty.

Mini has been a Rooster his whole career, in first grade since 2000. Does Anasta deserve more "loyalty" than Mini? Or is "loyalty" irrelevant and the correct approach is to get the optimal squad to give us the best chance at success.

Well who's being quoted then in the papers if its not Anasta? If he didn't want this played out in the papers, a simple 'no comment' would have been the way to go when first approached. Anasta and his manager are the one's who have made this into the story that it is.

You have to look at balance of the team as well. Anasta and Maubs are both light weight 2nd rowers. IMO a back row of Myles, FPN and Anasta OR Maubs looks better to me.

With Maubs a future star it lessens Anasta's value to the team.

They are both great players and both very popular players but thats the way it is.
