ROOSTERS star Todd Carney is set to be relieved of the goal-kicking duties at Bondi Junction as he continues his rehabilitation from groin surgery.
The Dally M medallist could miss up to a month of the 2011 season and with kicking duties an obvious strain on the groin area, it is understood coach Brian Smith is looking at other options, at least until Carney is back to 100 per cent fitness.
Halfback Mitchell Pearce has been spotted doing kicking drills with renowned conversion specialist and former Souths coach Jason Taylor, while skipper Braith Anasta and outside back BJ Leilua are also options.
Another possibility is returning hooker Mark Riddell, who could bring his famous salute back to the NRL.
Carney will travel to Ipswich with the Roosters on Wednesday for their weekend trial against Queensland Cup side the Jets, where he is expected to meet the same specialist who helped Brisbane Lions AFL star Michael Voss return in just four weeks from a similar injury.
The original prognosis when Carney went under the knife last week was that he would be sidelined for up to 10 weeks, but Roosters staff are quietly confident he could return in as little as six and be fit for the club's annual round one encounter against South Sydney.

Personally i think Braith's the best option for the job but i would love to see Piggy's salute again
