FPN set to re-sign

In the SMH they're reporting that we are about to re-sign FPN. I just have to think what this means for Braith because you would have to think that FPN would've had a decent wage rise along with Kennedy so room under the cap would be quite low imo and i just don't think that we can afford to carry Braith, Maubs and FPN in the backrow together as it seriously affects our go forward.
I'm seriously starting to think that Braith may not be with us past this year unfortunately.

How much is Maubs on? I always think of him as being a rep-quality player who hasn't quite cut the mustard yet.

That and kiwi internationals seem to come at a bargain price (although on form NZ is better than Australia right now.) I doubt FPN, JWH, Perrett and SKD would be on as much as say Gallen, Thaiday, Hayne and Tonga. Not a fair comparrison for many reasons, but when you factor in things like NZ internationals not playing origin, they are a steal at the moment IMO.

Anasta took a paycut last time so we could keep others he would be on no where near 450 these days more like 300 - 350 imho

I think if Anasta does re-sign, they are waiting to see how much they would use under te cap and how much they would top it up 3rd party as he is amarketable player for otuside the game and it would be easier to ahve 3rd party sponsors pick him up rather than your Kennedys or FNP types.
Thats if thye want to keep him.
They may see him as keeping another gun out fo the side.

The chances of Braith being offered another contract with the Eastern Suburbs club would be zero. Braith simply would'nt be able to hold down a position in the forwards, he might find it difficult to spend much time on the field this year with tough, classy young back rowers vying for his lock foward position.

Agree. But if Luke Towers returns and plays pretty good, i wouldn't mind seeing him at fullback and Minichiello can be like the assistant coach or something.

i agree. i rate towers highly as well and he has it all - has an uncanny resemblance to minis running game, kick returns and support play in the way he looms up looking for offloads and seemingly bounces out of tackles as well as having stacks of speed and acceleration like mini. Add the fact that he has spent plenty of time in the halves meaning he is a highly competent ball player and he is also an accomplished goal kicker. Also a local boy who bleeds red white and blue. I really hope it works out. Work your magic smithy!!

Good point there... since Mini and Braith are both past their prime and mainly offering experience/leadership... why not start priming them as coaches, and keeping/paying them without hitting the salary cap?

Exactly, we really should give him a shot instead of letting him go to another NRL club.
He certainly does remind me of Mini. If he does return in June, that would be perfect. Have a few games in Newtown to get back into it and then go from there.

the thing that concerns me is that there have been a couple of opportunities particularly in 09 and even last year where mini did not play and towers who performed well in both seasons in the lower grades and therefore could easily have been given a game but didnt. Not sure whether this is a matter of him being deemed not ready or not capable but i think he has as much potential as any one else
