The thread title is very misleading. To me it reads FPN has an important job that he is leaving...
    That's what I thought too

Ryles is solid but one of our biggest weaknesses is go forward. He isn't going to improve the situation.

Ryles was the only one bending the line last season ( as well as Kennedy and Mose - who imo can't play big minutes).

Myles, Conn, FPN regularly got dominated in attack. If go forward was the issue, then they are the weakness(note: they are all backrowers in my book).

Although FPN improved out of sight, he still has games where he will take 6 or 8 hit-up for 50 metres.

I'm hopeful Kennedy will start alongside Ryles, and FPN will improve his attacking workrate otherwise the backrow of Anasta/Maubs/FPN is our biggest weakness. If Anasta is a ballplayer on the left fringe and Maubs runs very wide on the right fringe (neither roll up their sleeves in working up the field) then FPN has no choice but to put the hard yards down the middle. If not, i hope Conn gets rewarded for his form and is allowed to play his natural position of backrow - where i thing he will flourish.

      Just my thoughts.

        Fair summation BigM.
Coach Smith eluded to our inferior go-forward play, that's one reason for Piggy's signing.
IMO, our pack needs a Fitzy type worker/all-rounder. Barring injuries, i'm expecting the injection of a young Cordner or Ethan Lowe to provide it.
A fit Anthony Watts will do wonders as well.

I am gutted that Watts got injured. He would of really provided us with another dimension in attack and defence.

What i find with FPN is that he gets dominated in the first 15-20 minutes of a game when he starts as a prop/tight forward. To start the game he would be better suited to running a bit wider out, on the fringes, looking to target and barnstorm his way through the smaller guys. Then after he has had a spell, when he comes back on for his second stint he can afford to play in tight and be quite affective making good yards up the middle. This is how i hope Brian uses him for this year.

He's almost become a forgotten man in the forward pack but I reckon he is in for a massive year. Last year was his breakout year so I expect him to go onto new heights in 2011. Can't wait for the season to start!

He's still a little lost for me, has the ability to play a number of roles for us just hasn't really settled into the starting team yet. Smith may just see him as a versatile player but I reckon he's got a little more quality than that and it's about time he made a position his own. Be it lock, second row or up front.

Backrow is his position, he seems to slim to be playing up front or at lock, but he seems to have become quiten agile over the past year so he could be damaging running wide.

He is similar to what Taufua is for the Knights.

I'd keep Ryles for another season whether or not we signed another high profile front rower. We have potentially, a few candidates for a starting position, but they're all very young. Our forward pack lacked some power against some of the opposition packs last year, I was disappointed we did'nt improve our strength in this department for 2011.

Great news, can't wait to see Frankie go around again specially with his new found confidence.

                        Chook.

He's not big enough to play up front for the first 15 min, so let Ryles and Kennedy play with the big boys.
In the latter part of 2010, he did a lot of those 2nd and 3rd person in tackles around the ruck, and I see him continuing to do that this year.

I reckon people easily forget he is only 23.

He's a good four to five years away from his prime.

                            He will only get better.

                            This is great news.

I am with you... He has defects in his game but if you compare his 2010 to 2009 there was massive improvement.. It is hard to think there won't be further improvement in 2011 albeit to a lesser degree. What I like about Frank is he is a footballer... He isn't just a hit up machine, he has a bit of a step, can offload at will and has some aggression.
