  • Anthony Minichiello to extend his stay until the end of 2012

WHILE Anasta tries to sort out his future, it seems Anthony Minichiello is nicely settled and all but ready to extend his stay at the Chooks until the end of 2012.

He wined and dined fiancee Terry Biviano at Guillaume at Bennelong for Valentines Day

With Dugan now hot property and most likely to stay in Canberra, getting another couple of years out of Mini seems a sensible thing to do. And given he's had a few years off, I can't see why he won't play on for a few and play decent ball.

    Chook.

          I beg to differ Chook.
either they feel we need another year to blood some one or they have some one else to sign and take over in 2013.
Mini is useful and going all right but observing last year he has lost a lot of pace, dangerous in the oppositions quarter still.
For my money this year should be the end and England next stop for mini.

I'm sure the club is looking at other options beyond this year. If there is nothing better then they will probably consider another 1 year extension.

Who else do we have at the club that could do a better job?

Dugan will be commanding a marquee players wage by then and far out of our price range if we retain who we want to retain.

              Chook.

He'll get at least a one year extension, perhaps two remembering last year was only his first full year back from injury. I think he still has a lot to offer.

                Chook.

absolutely right - Dugan shouldn't even be considered

don't buy at the top of the market

as for Mini, I think he's on his last legs

I think we bought Naughton for the very reason of replacing Mini. He has come along very nicely (apart from a few injury hickups) and he came cheap. He is 13cm taller than Mini and 20kgs heavier according to the Roosters website. Mini can almost take up being a jockey at the 69kgs the website has him at.

If we get Dugan, well and good, but he shouldn't be a priority at his asking price. It does depend on how much the salary cap increases in 2013.

with the Veteren discount it makes salary cap sense to keep Mini around a little longer.

Dugan will be well out of our salary cap reach come 2013, we would have to give up either Pearce/Carney if we wanted to get Dugan and they won't happen unless one of them wants to leave.

Only if he is playing at the required standard to hold his place. Perrett is eligible for the veterans discount in 2012 also.

                          You would think that.

Nearly all of Mini's problems last year were when he was playing on the wing which was never really something he was cut out to do.

While he wasn't the untackleable pinball he was in his younger days, he is still quite solid at the back and he has developed a passing game that was previously unseen, allowing him to create opportunities for others. His back-up and support play putting himself in good positions to score remains great.

He is a fitness freak so if he gets a good injury run there's no reason why he couldn't continue to provide plenty for a couple more years. With Anasta's future still up in the air too it makes sense to keep some experience around to guide through the younger players both on and off-field.

You do realise that he was a winger before he was a full back? He had some great intercept chase downs and tries while he was there.
