ShareSYDNEY Roosters are hopeful of locking in New Zealand international Shaun Kenny-Dowall for a further four years.
The 23-year-old centre has been with the club since making his debut in 2007.
Off contract at the end of the year, Roosters recruitment manager Michael O’Sullivan told Sportsnewsfirst.com.au the club has had discussions with SFX management and is confident of retaining the young star.
“Your elite players are looking at a three to four year deal and (Kenny-Dowall) falls into that category,” O’Sullivan said on Thursday.
“I have had preliminary talks with his manager.
“We are working through it... hopeful of having it sorted in the next month.”
In arguably his best year of football, Kenny-Dowall scored the match winning 100th minute of extra time try to win the Roosters week one finals game 15-19.
In 2010 the NRL All Star became runner up to Benji Marshall in the Golden Boot award and elected centre in the team of the year.
With rumours of a five-year deal, the Roosters are hoping he will resign as a sign of good faith.
“We have been good to him and he has been good to us,” O’Sullivan said.
“We signed him at a young age and put him on a good contract before honestly he was entitled to one.”
A four-year deal would have him at the tricolours until the end of 2015.
