As Brain said, it has been a long time since we have had a strike centre.

Carney looks talented, but I don't get the extent of the wraps on him. He's a ball of muscle, sure, but he's also all of 5 foot 6, with a history of injuries, and without a season to match SKiD's 2010.

I hope Carney sets the world on fire, but SKD should be a top priority.
I agree... You only have to look at the improvement in the guy over 3 years.. in 2008 he made steady eddy look co-ordinated.. in 2009 he showed flashes of brilliance but still made a tonne of mistakes.. In 2010 he started to really put it all together.. he still made plenty of mistakes albeit a few less and bombed a number of tries but the year on year improvement was clear.. Even towards the end of the year there were signs that he was improving in setting up his outside man...

HE is not worth $400K, but if he can get it, he's gotta take it.

If he leaves, is there any chance we could claw back some of the cash we paid him when he had hands like flippers and a brain like a peanut?

        If Kenny-Dowall does go..

I would go chase hard for Chris Lawrence.

I'd pay a centre 400k a year if he had 5 seasons out of 7 like the one SKD had last year. But I wouldn't pay a centre 400k a year if he had 1 out of 3 great seasons like SKD has. That kind of money is reserved for your 1,6,7 and 9 and possibly your captain and star forward.

            good option.

but SKD, as horry said in the Anasta 2 yrs post, will be re-signing for 4 yrs.

Crap that he doesn't like smith. He loves the coach and he loves our club.

I'd expect some good announcement this week hopefully.

I seem to recall reading somewhere, SKD wanted to stay to repay the loyalty shown to him By the Roosters during his formative years with the club, since arriving as an unheralded backpacker.

I would like to think that he will.

                        What rubbish.

He deserved all the criticism in the world prior to last season because he was the laughing stock of the NRL with his schoolboy errors. Only the blindest of Roosters supporters could justify his position in first grade.

Last year, i was the one of the first to acknowledge his improvement, however i didn't blow my load like most supporters. Those who only see his line-breaks yet fail to acknowledge his rubbish defence. Or the fact that in the first half of the season he was still making dumbass errors such as not being able to execute a draw and pass.

The guy can keep improving but to suggest he is worth anything over 300k just based on his lone breakout year is kidding themselves. There aren't many centres worth that much, and the ones that are have been doing it longer and are much more consistant that SKD.

Don't make out that i have some vendetta against the kid just because i try and look at him objectively. I enjoy his contributions like any other fan, but i'm not oblivious to his shortcomings either.

So we should make him one of the highest paid centres in the game because of one breakout season and the fact that we won't get a suitable replacement next year ?

I wouldn't risk such a large portion of a salary cap on a player that is not a part of the spine, or brings off-field contributions to benefit the team (similar to Petero).

The only centre in the game at this moment who could come anywhere near that figure would be Jamie Lyon. Inglis would be a distant second.

SKD is playing great football ... outside arguably the best halves combination in the NRL. How many tries/LB/TA would Lyon, Inglis, Lawrence or even Tonga snag playing on that fringe outside Pearce/Carney ?

Someone mentioned it earlier - if you're going to pay SKD 300+, what are you going to pay Pearce or Carney ? They are by far more important to the team than SKD. Have to balance the squad somehow.

Maybe, in a few years SKD can prove that he is worth that much with consistant performances, but in my eyes you cannot justify paying anywhere near 300+ for him at this particular point in time.

Sounds about right, Intercepts aside,SKD still needs to show he's a stand alone centre who can do something without good ball !
