  • Rothfield defends Benji takes shots at Carney again

not that its a surprise to anyone here

Don't punish Benji Marshall just because he's the face of the NRL

rugby league world will be waiting with interest for the NRL to act on the Benji Marshall case.

Trying to predict player punishment is harder than winning Lotto.

The NRL is the opposite to a court of law in that chief executive David Gallop does not reward players for clean records.

    In fact, it's the opposite.

Manly superstar Brett Stewart was suspended for four weeks two years ago because he transgressed when he was the face of the game.

Todd Carney escaped suspension despite being charged with a criminal offence - and he had a shocking list of prior misdemeanours.

    Work that out.

Stewart's case went to the NRL board. Carney's didn't.

    Work that out.

Stewart didn't get a face-to-face meeting with Gallop. Carney did.

    Work that out.

So we move on to Benji, the newly anointed face of the game. Will this latest incident go to the board like Brett Stewart?

Will he get lashed with a feather like Carney?

    Surely commonsense will prevail.

Benji should not have reacted, no matter what the provocation.

He should have walked away from it.

But he should not be punished because he is the face of the game.

What happened to Brett Stewart should never be allowed to happen again.

Benji Marshall should be cleared to play next weekend.

      Work that out says Rothfield?

      It's simple wanker:

The NRL felt that Manly didn't take appropriate action against Stewart at the time so they stepped in.

The Roosters got on the front foot and formulated a 5 point plan and presented it to the NRL which they accepted. Therefore there was no need to step in.

      Simple douchebag.

So this (http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/spo...-1226016411664) happens at 3am in the morning on George Street Sydney which is a time and place when things such as this can happen and Benji would have known that beforehand. It looks like the "Face of the Game" curse is intact. As for slothfield's reaction, nothing less was expected.

It is just his fuel to take a shot at The Roosters.

It is a cold day in hell when he is not attacking our club. Strongly considering a banner, something like F**K ROTHFIELD.

Short and to the point. if he hates the Roosters, he may as well hate us fans as well !!!!

You would think that Benji Marshall, whom I accept is no genius, or at least his manager, if he's not match fixing, would know that a high profile arrogant big mouth like Marshall being out at 3 am anywhere is a bad idea.

And on that Stewart/Carney thing, Carney got picked up by police in the Souths area, Stewart did things with his fingers that no man should do to a woman without permission.

You learn these things when you attend court proceedings.

When braith got king hit a while back in Double Bay, he had the presence of mind to get up and not cause a further scene.

                Why couldn't benji?

Adding to that, they are now saying benji was sober......Anger management issue much????

Rothfield will say that benji should not be punished, how many more incidents like this will there be before they are punished !

Carney was punished, Rothfield is pissed off that it was not to his standard.

It shouldn't matter what time it was in the morning. Benji took the right action if he was being taunted the way he says he was. He has a right to be out at 3am if he likes. The idiots that provoked him then report the punch in the lip to the cops? What a bunch of sooks.

Marshall has been baited a few times.
Hit them before they hit you ?Im fine with that .
If the guy left the joint and marshall went after him then thats a premeditated assualt or what ever you want to call it.
Personally the whinger should man up and take it on the chin .If Marshal wasnt a footballer i guarantee the bloke wouldnt of went to the cops .
Like my self Marshall has to learn to turn the other cheek.
Fined by the club would do.

It is interesting that it was the Taunt that caused benji to punch on, but what happened prior to that???

What was said? Did the bloke just come out and call him a Black C or were there words before that??????

I don't care if Marshall was receiving a benediction from his Immenseness Cardinal Dr George Pell, he allegedly hit a bloke.

                          Assault, if proven, is assault.

                          The same penalty should apply.

you are an absolute joke rothfield!! i am not saying that benji should cop a suspension for this but it amazes me that he wanted to throw the book at carney and yet he is pleading benjis case for him! he is the face of the game and should also be held accountable for his actions... all rothfield has done is make it clearer that he has some sort of vendetta against the Roosters club!! as a journalist, he should do his job and keep his personal issues with a club or individual to himself!!
p.s what an old ugly prick
