  • Symonds off contract!

the ORR brothers reciecved a number of calls from the sharks and other clubs after fridays performance, should the roosters try to retain Symonds? or do we have the depth to cover him??????

I'd hope so, people have mentioned it on here already but he has the potential to be Anasta's long term replacement.

Rooster born and bred I think it's important to keep players like this.

Absolutely have to keep him, he is a champion in the making. The Roosters would be stark raving mad to let him go.

We easily have the best Ranga in the NRL, let's keep it that way. Tom Symonds - Rooster for Life!!

Symonds must be retained for not only his obvious ability but for his being a true junior which is something the Roosters are monotonously criticised for being without.

we had the chance to get him cheap but apparentley didn't show alot of interest! I can tell you that Symonds is being shopped around to other clubs now,as the season progresses the price will rise. The sharks are already talking 200k.....

Forget the "local bondi boy" bullshit please. It should have no bearing on whether we re-sign him or not other than making him cheaper for us. Blake Asheford that plays for the tigers is supposedly a "local bondi boy" yet we let him slip through.

Re-sign the kid because he's good (which he is) not because of where he lives or we'll end up like souffs with a bunch of overpaid useless nuffies that live locally.

              Chook.

We have a lot of depth in his position but the fact he is a local junior will get him a new contract.

                  Tom

There is no doubt the man has talent, but he also has a bad record of being able to stay on the field, if he can have a good season without being out too often, then I say dont let him go, but an injury prone player, just eats into your salary cap, for very little return, he needs a good season, injury free.

                  Regards......Burnt Rooster.

                    My opinion:

Re-sign Symonds and Ryles both for one year beyond this season, until the end of 2012.

That way, at the end of 2012, when Braith passes the age of 30 and might possibly be considering moving to England, we can make a choice between him and Symonds for that left fringe widerunning backrower slot. Also, Ryles should stick around for one more season with big boppers Kennedy, Masoe and Hargreaves, just until one of Tasi, Conn or Arona really stand up as that 4th prop option looking towards the future.

A player of his quality and youth would not sign a one year deal so that we can make a decision on whether we keep him or Braith. Especially when the likes of the dogs, sharks, eels are throwing money at everyone who comes on the market. There is also plenty of talent off contract at the end of 2012 across the board, so it in Tom's best interest to set himself up for a few years now.

I am sure Tom is a priority but he just isn't the type to go out to the papers saying "the roosters don't want me but I want to be a rooster for life".

I think the fact that he is a Bondi United junior plays a very important role.

Our club represents the eastern suburbs and clubs like Bondi United have produced some good footballers over the years.

It is important that we promote these players.

Blake Ayshford, like Cherrington, played for the Paddington Tigers, who play in the combined Souffs/Balmain competition. Yes, a joke considering Paddington is the eastern suburbs. This is another argument however.

Seriously Mack that would be one dumb piece of recruitment.. Give him 3 years so when Anasta is off contract his replacement is already here.. You run the risk of losing both when we should only he hoping one leaves.

I see him as our next Ricko. A local kid that broke onto the scene and became a club legend with 10 years of service under his belt - all without stifling the attack.
