  • Team changes vs Doggiezzz

Someone had to start this thread.

I can't see Smithy making too many changes and I don't see any reason he should. We let our guard down and based on last year, it shouldn't surprise anyone. We played with little intensity and were illdisciplined/undisciplined (does anyone know the right term because Gus had NFI). I thought we played as bad as we did when the doggiez put 60 on us last year yet we were still in the game with 10 to go.

    Changes for next week:
Piggy has to go and I'll sing that until Watts is available. Offers absolutely nothing apart from a chuckle watching him wabble around trying to catch players. His second stint was like watching some Neville who paid $14,000 to get a 15 minutes stint with his heroes. IIIRostermanIII can you do a clip on Piggy to the music of the Little Elephant Song?

Symonds should cement himself a spot in first grade after yesterday. I hope to replace Piggy and not at the expense of an injured Masoe.

I would have Carney on for Perrett even if he plays at centre and Linnett on the wing. He matches Perrett for dummy half runs, is faster and a much better defender. And it's not because of this one game. Perrett will do his job but I think Carney will offer us more.

No more changes necessary. The others have proved themselves over the last 12 months without hitting the panic button for one game. Like last year, we will improve as the season goes on and Carney gets more match fitness under his belt.

Agree with all of that Buddy!
I'd start FPN and have Kennedy on the bench aswell!
I still believe the Conn-man should be in there somewhere. Consistantly bends the defensive line and troubles the opposition with his offload!

Thats all fine but Conn is busy bending the bar from reports on here.
No one mentions Anasta -replace him with Symonds .

there is a fair bit of tension going on behind the scenes at the moment, Smith is extremely unhappy with the offseason preparations of a group of players and the friction is starting to spread within members of the team.

we all know how stubborn Smith can be and there is no indication whether Smith even sees Conn an option at the moment given his off the field activities over the off season.

I don't see any changes injuries aside for the backline, unless Smith wants to send SKD to Newtown to serve as a warning to the entire squad.

so the backline is as normal

        Mini
        Perrett
        SKD
        Linnett
        Leilua
        Carney
        Pearce

spots 8-17 is where any changes are likely to come from, there is certainly a worthy argument for Masoe/JWH to start in place of Ryles and Kennedy, also Riddell is a big problem on the bench but I get the feeling we are seeing a Koups the 2nd type situation and Smiths ego will mean he won't drop Riddell any time soon.

would love to see Conn/Symonds come in for Riddell/Anasta but it simply won't happen.

our team balance simply is not right with the 3 playmakers Pearce/Carney/Anasta when the momentum is against us we just don't have the workrate within the side to swing the momentum back our way.

the forward pack and bench will likely be very similar to the first two weeks with some injury doubt over Masoe maybe the only change.

        Ryles
        Riddell
        Kennedy
        Anasta
        Maubs
        Myles

        Friend
        JWH
        Symonds
        FPN

Symonds has played 5/8 for Newtown, why couldnt he do the Riddell role and rotate with friend, then use him as a backrower, even backline player if their is an injury, he is a man for all postions, al Chris Flannery.

Justin Carney has to have a spot somewhere, he is a destructive ball runner, both from dummy half and close to the opponants tryline, i like bothe pez and linnett, but one of them will have to make way

            Myles
            Maubs
            Bwaith
            Frankie

            Kennedy/Conn
            Masoe
            JWH
            Symonds

            Backline the same.

How would we know though? Nobody had the balls to name names after spouting this 'inside info'........ I read quite a few names in that particular thread!

                1. Minichello - saw glimpses of him bursting onto the ball against Souffs...this must continue
                2. Leilua - destructive at his best
                3. SKD - needs to go looking for the ball
                4. Linnett - only just ahead of JC
                5. Perret - heart and soul
                6. Carney - needs to be closer to the ruck
                7. Pearce - should always take the attacking kicks

                8. Ryles - where's the offload gone?
                9. Friend - origin
                10. Myles - prop is his best position...he seems to be willing to do more work
                11. Anasta - pull your finger out
                12. Aubo - is he injured? hasnt been himself...
                13. FPN - lock is his best position...gives him a license to roam around the field...absolute freak when he's offloading

                14. Symonds - ala flannery
                15. Tasi - get him in there...the next mose
                16. Mose - needs to get more minutes
                17. JWH - as above

Kennedy to Newtown - needs to work on his positioning

Bit harsh on Perrett. To say Carney is a better defender and matches him for dummy half runs is a big call considering he hasn't played first grade for a couple of seasons.

The " groin " has'nt played in six months, if his injury has healed he probably needs another 2 or 3 weeks to be truly match fit. Iwas surprised by the lack of pace Leilua showed running down the sideline, gathered in by his opposing number very smartly after conceding B.J. several metres. I consider him a must for our top 17, but i'd like to see J.carney take his spot. Our pack really needs to harden up against the Bulldogs next week.

Funny how we go from playing a great game at night and then comes one of those hot Sunday afternoon games that the players don't show up. It happened last year I believe. That's what I think that happened to most and especially BJ. H e is still young and doesn't concentrate. Obviously they wished they were at the beach.

Our forwards got hammered because of a compressed defense. We need speed on Perrett's wing so that Carney has more attacking options and can force the opposition to uncompress their defense or pay the price.
