You asked how on earth would I know that ?...my mates work for channel 9 and do the football coverage...from camera men to the editor...the video refs have the televised programme right in front of them...and yes they do ask for different angles when called upon to make a judgement and my mate the editor is the one who supplies it to them ( if it's a channel 9 game )...I don't know the fox guys so can't speak for them but it wouldn't be much different to what channel 9 supply the video ref...the fact is he does have a game that is being televised live right there on a screen in front of him...in fact he has a couple of screens infront of him and able to get what he needs on one screen while the other screen runs the normal format all of us are watching as well...

Did you assume he sits up in the stands with binoculars during the game?

Think what you want but I'll stick with what I know straight from the horses mouth...and from people involved directly with the televised part of the game...

you said that you suspect that the referees in the manly souths game gave penalties to manly on the basis of having heard the channel 9 commentators saying that manly hadn't been given a penalty yet.

If a referee does that, that's corrupt

Given that you've subsequently said that you don't feel stupid following a sport that you believe is corrupt, the only conclusion that can be drawn is that you have no issue being screwed over by corrupt officials whilst you consume your Rugby League
Read things twice if you have trouble comprehending the meaning...

If you believe that all match officials don't have any bias or favouritism to a particular team then you need to open your eyes and get your head out of the sand...I for one won't be fooled into thinking everyone's neutral...I do believe there is some that do have their favourites...and those favourites will get some bias...might be a call or 2 in a game...might be a crucial ball line call...but they will get it...

You believe what you want but I'll stick with my opinion thank you very much...

Of course the refs are getting the feeds from from channel 9 and Fox who are covering the games, but are you saying that they are listening to the commentators who are just giving their opinion on the game???

The televised version of the game does have the commentators as well...they would not be too bothered by what commentators are saying or opinions...but a comment about refereeing would catch their interest of course...their refs at the end of the day and it's about them...

Last year questions were asked when a ref mid game asked into his mic piece what the penalty count was...why did he need to know that ?...read my earlier post to BIll Harrigans answer to that question when it was posed to him...

As I said before...66 minutes into a game and they highlite not a single penalty given to Manly...within 5 minutes of that 3 in a row and within a minute of each other...2 of them were overkill...but it made it look a bit more respectable in the end...

I would have loved to see it finish nil penalties to Manly...the controversy would have been sensational...

I was never debating that the video ref gets the footage from channel 9 or Foxsports (whoever is running the show that day.) But I seem to think that you're drawing a long bow in assuming that the video ref's listen to the broadcast commentary (if in fact their stream of the game even has commentary). Perhaps you have mates who are video referees as well who can clarify this?

Nope...just the guys working in the sports area at channel 9...

Paul Mcblane worked with me though after retiring from refereeing ( forced retirement )...he had some interesting stories...and yes he did have some favourites and also some dislikes...some of his comments would shut up a few of the people in denial as well...

Let us all highlight insignificant points in people's posts and ignore what they were really saying!!!

I confirmed with them today that yes the refs do get the televised footage as we see it with all the normal commentary and ads etc etc...and one big screen they look at what they are called upon to rule on...I wasn't assuming or drawing a long bow at all...I was sure that during a conversation re video refs some time ago they had mentioned the set up so I specifically asked again today and it's as I said above...

The guy who is telling me this is wired up to the video ref and supplying him the different camera shots and replaying it or going back and forwards in slow motion for a try decision...giving him what he wants to look at...I hope that clears things up for you...
