Good post Chook. I really don't know why people think Pearce is a game breaker. I don't see him in that role, and people that do, have been watching a diffrent player to me.

Pearce played the exact role he is in the team for, and will get selected in Origin for the same reasons.

Although I didn't think Pearce was BAD, there are still occasions where he looks caught in two minds - which he didn't do last year.

With all the talk about him running etc., it looks like he is trying to pass too close to the line. He needs to back his gut decision, because that's when a running game is at its most dangerous.

He organises the side well, and his kicking, when he concentrates, is good. When he grows in confidence as the player he is, not the player some of us want him to be (a Carney-style gamebreaker), he will be the best halfback we've had in a fairly long time (if he isn't already).

The whole team stepped up yesterday, including Braith.

He's not a world-beater like Freddy was but Anasta loves this club. I don't understand the hate.

I don't think there is hate for Anasta. I think most people see that there are better options for us in the forwards. His workrate is just not there for the number he is wearing on his back.

I must admit i was hoping Braith would adjust to the back-row in a similar manner to Luke Lewis, Braith is big enough to really run good angles and make some tough runs when the team needs it and he has had the off-season to either get bigger and change his body type to adjust to the back-row.

Though in saying that Braith is situated on the Left hand side and doesn't seem to roam enough in the middle and that could contribute to the fact he doesn't get to touch the ball as much.

I expect him to improve over the year.

I think you are being a bit harsh towards Braith! I know he is wearing the number 11 but he isnt there to make 30 tackles a game and take 12 hit-ups, that isnt his role! We are so lucky to have Pearce, Carney and Braith in our starting line up, Braith loves the club and brings a lot of experience and composure every week... Sure he is no Freddy but we wont ever have a player like him again, once Braith is gone I think a lot of people will miss him

He may no make the 30 takles or the 100+ metres.
But he is often the one that makes the tackle that counts, he is nearly always the one that cleans up the split ball.

It doesn't hurt to have those sorts of players leading the team, if everyone else does their job

Can't agree KB. In this competition you need 17 pulling their weight, particularly in the forwards, or you will get beaten.

                  Chook.

That's what Fittler use to do however he was also the chief playmaker and wearing 6 on his back.. Basically we now have 2 guys doing one job.

No, he made 19 tackles and 45 metres.
