A couple of stories last weekend said that Maubs was in to cover an injured Linnett.

I'd say the story is that the injury is a tricky one to diagnose timeframe wise so Smithy would rather say nothing.

Arona is very unlucky to miss out imo!
The bloke had a blinder on Sunday.
A couple of weeks in the top grade would only make him better aswell!
I've said all along that Conn needs to be in the 17 too...He was one of our best last year and his game on Sunday suggests to me that not much has changed in that regard!

Linnett is not injured he was warming up with the boys on the weekend as 18th man, what you will find is Smith will start to employ a rotation system where some of the fringe first graders get a run in first grade every couple of weeks, then the following week its back to Newtown and then 18th man the following.

also I think you will find Conn has done his dash in regards a contract extension, his playboy partying ways over the offseason were not appreciated and many inside the club feel he played a big part in Carney falling of the rails again.

On the other hand, we could always promise him Jason Ryles' spot next year...always a possibility, to groom him for that role.

But at the same time, is he a good enough prop to lead the pack with young monsters Masoe, Hargreaves and Kennedy?
          No spots are "promised" Mack

Linnett has been named in the centres for Newtown this week.

I think Conn would be perfect to lead our pack as he leads by example. I was really impressed with him last year as he played way above his weight and did a lot of the hard meters up the middle ala Sunday. As for his partying ways, label him Daniel "Charlie" Conn for all I care, as long as he is winning we will be too.

              Chook.

Am hearing the same chinese wispers.

Needs big performances (on the field) this year to sway those that sign the cheques.

It has come down to which player is more important to the team. The answer is quite obvious.

Conn's game last week does not warrant him being dropped. Arona the other very unlucky one.

If fit, I can't believe Linnett is not in our top 20. Something fishy seems to be happening with no news about injury and not being selected in the top 20 or Newtown last week.
I disagree with being the best. i thought against Soft Sydney we played better apart from those 20 mins. Defensive wise this was great but when you look at the players the Tigers had out there, we should have put 40 at least. I agree about Conn and Arona

Conn in for Ryles or Piggy. Apart from leadership (tigers game proved it's not that important. Most disciplined game so far) Ryles has got nothing our younger guys. Piggy isn't all that valuable either. Conn has more than proven himself all of last year and had a great game on sunday.

My only concern with Conn leading the pack is his lack of experience. He's only played 50-60 first grade games, which isn't a great deal, and he hasn't played any rep football. I'm hoping the young guys stand up and feed off each other so we don't need to find a forward leader, but if that doesn't happen I think if we want to find a new leader then we need to be looking at the market. Ideally someone who has played 150-200 first grade games and/or has played plenty of Origin or Test football and is around 30 will appear on the market for the right price... It's not a priority in my opinion.
