    MISSED TACKLES

    Roosters ... Opponent

    Rd 1: 20 ... Souths: 45

    Rd 2: 20 ... Manly: 22

    Rd 3: 21 ... Dogs: 34

    Rd 4: 32 ... Tigers: 42

Gotta say I like those numbers. Aside from maybe the opening stanza against Manly, we have been good in the physical stakes. For the first three weeks, we had some issues with a lack of desperation in scrambling defence and we missed some flair in attack due to Carney and SKD being either absent, underdone or off their games. With those aspects having improved dramatically against the Tigers, things are looking fairly promising.

in fairness i think a good 30 of the missed tackles by souths were Sandow
I support two NRL teams, the Roosters and whoevers playing Souths

All 30 were ineffective shoulder charges. And pointless.

Like my dad used to say at Under 8's, "Defence wins games". If the boys can keep up those kind of stats, winning games will become alot easier.

tbf Sandow made more than he missed.

He only missed 4, and made a whopping 5. LOL.

Of all the games, we missed more tackles against Tigers? Seemed like that was our best defensive game of the season...

Whilst Benji was running around in circles we did miss him 30 times alone...

So it was only 2 missed tackles really...

Not sure on the possession stats but the tigers seemed to have a lot of possession especially in our half. Our defense was very impressive last week.

Fifita and Benji broke 15 tackles between them, but our scramble was fantastic.

Anything less than 25 is quite good. I'd like us to at least maintain around 20 per game for the season, or preferably head towards 15-17 missed tackles. We've got the attacking gears, but I'd also like us to develop some defensive gears where we can just shut a team out.

Which proves that this stat, taken in isolation, is not very useful.

tackle stats are by and large very very misleading.
COMPARED TO THE 70'S AND 80'S, THEIR SEEMS TO BE A THOUUUUUSAND MORE TACKLES IN EVERY MATCH NOW-ITS IMPOSSIBLE

                        Probably a combination of:

-Turnovers when there would have been scrums.
-Faster pace of the game due to greater athleticism and fitness of the professional era.
-More consistently fast pace over 80 minutes due to more than twice the number of interchanges.
-More gang tackles. Every man in the tackle adds to the total.
