NRL hits Newcastle coach Rick Stone with $10,000 fine for criticising the referees in wake of Bennett signing


KNIGHTS coach Rick Stone's day from hell just got 10,000 times worse.

After finding out this morning that NRL master coach Wayne Bennett will take over as Newcastle head coach beginning next season, Stone was this morning responsible for his club receiving a $10,000 fine for attacking the integrity of referees Phil Haines and Jared Maxwell on Monday night.

Stone suggested in a press conference following his side's loss to the Broncos last night that the referees were never going to let the Knights win.
