They reckon that if Boyd and Snowden go to Newcastle, Sa'u might come off contract.

It also says he wants 250K a year - I probably wouldn't mind seeing him at the club for that much. Linnett looks like a winger, and on his day, Sa'u is destructive.

    Thoughts?

Yes do the same idiotic thing we did with SKD and stuff Linnett up by playing him on the wing when he is a centre.

one simple problem no room left under the cap for next year, all the recent extensions/upgrades has left us with very little wiggle room even if Ryles/Riddell are not here next year.

I didn't realise Shaun and Kane were in fact the same person.

If you didn't catch onto the point I was making then I guess you at least described yourself aptly in your username Freddy.

                I didn't, and I still don't!

Here's what I don't get: Kenny-Dowall has always been rocks and diamonds. Even in 2009, he did some good things, but some shocking things as well. This is pretty much the footballing opposite of Linnett, who is regularly solid, never brilliant, but never completely shithouse. The fact that the best thing he's done in our colours is a defensive effort against Folau shows this pretty clearly.

Sure, they're both lanky, but SKD posesses a tackle-breaking ability Linnett doesn't. Linnett's talent lies in his speed, his height and his finishing - sounds like a winger to me.

Basically, they're completely different players, and I see nothing to suggest that us moving Linnett to the wing would hinder him - I actually reckon he's more of a winger than a centre.

Sa'u is small but strong, and relatively quick for someone of his stature. He isn't asking for anything astronomical, and I'm pretty sure his rise came about under Smith, did it not?

Sounds like a decent mix to me.

Sounds like an old-style winger not a modern one. It isn't enough to be able to catch and race down the touchline anymore. Being good from dummy-half and in the air is vital. Wingers have to be extremely athletic, and be either very powerful or at least have strong leg drive with great footwork. Strength not only being important out of dummy-half, but also close to the tryline. And a winger's aerial skills both in attack and defence can often decide games. Linnett has yet to convince me in any of these areas, and I also think his positional play in defence has been suspect at centre, which doesn't auger well for him in a less familiar position on the wing.

Well, we haven't really given Linnett a chance in the air to be honest. What's more, there are still wingers whose main strengths lie in the catch-and-finish part of the game - hell, that's all Brett Morris does.

We have two strong, close-to-the-ground wingers in Carney and Perrett, and while Perrett can be good in the air, I reckon this limits us. We don't have a legitimate aerial option. Who knows? With his height, I see no reason why Linnett couldn't be this.

I don't understand your question marks over his defence - for someone who has played only a handful of first grade games, I reckon it's pretty damn good. He shut down one of the game's best in Folau, and actually makes good reads, most of the time, when coming in to rap up a bloke on his outside shoulder.

i think we should try and pick up peni tagive from the dragons for next year. he is off contract, has had a horrid run of injuries and is behind morris and nightingale. a genuine winger in the tquiri mold - tall, fast, strong and very athletic. played plenty of junior rep footy and has done the job the few times he has been called on in first grade. he is a perfect smithy type player and reckon he would be a dynamite option down the left flank or at worst just add a bit more depth. he can be easily accomodated as well - phil graham can be shed and im sure whatever graham was on will be more than enough to secure a largely unproven player as well.

To answer the sentiment of the thread, i dont think we need sau. he is a good player no doubt but to play centre we have j-carney and linnett who are genuine centres proven at first grade level as well as maubs and leilua who considering our backrow depth, may end up partnering SKD long term. throw in young moga and blair and we have plenty and plenty of options. we have plenty of depth its just about settling on the right combinations. thats why tagive would be the ideal signing imo. he is a genuine winger with the height and speed which is what we need but at the same time will not necessarily take an opportuinty away from the players we already have at the club because he isnt an established first grade as yet therefore on the surface it just gives us another quality option to choose from.
