  • Tom Symonds To Knights

    http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news...1226038726073A

STRIKE backrower is all that is standing between Wayne Bennett and his $1 million bonus for delivering Newcastle a premiership from next season.

That is the consensus from NRL insiders who believe Bennett already has the framework for a successful team at Newcastle. A few key men and Bennett's own considerable influence are all that is needed.

Dragons fullback Darius Boyd is expected to follow Bennett to Newcastle and Cronulla's representative prop Kade Snowden has long been a target of the Knights.

Storm backrower Adam Blair is shaping as the No 1 target. However, Ryan Hoffmann, Joe Picker or Tom Symonds may also come under Bennett's gaze.

The $1m bounty is part of a lucrative $10m deal Bennett struck with mining magnate Nathan Tinkler before agreeing on Tuesday to join the Knights.

Former Brisbane five-eighth and Bennett's son-in-law Ben Ikin said yesterday Bennett's ability to make players better was the key factor.

We will not lose Tom Symonds.

If we do, many, many, many people on this forum will have words with Brian Smith and the Roosters group.

I'm trying to decide if it's Tom Symonds that has the problem , or Brian Smith ?

I'll make my judgement in round 24.

Have a think about where we are going. Judge the team in 20 weeks.....not now.

Smithy comes up with the goods...he's a legend.

We come below the 8....You'll tell us how bad he is.

      Hedge your bets Rooster supporters.

Not sure how legit his sources are but hopefully it's a wake up call for the club.

If we lose Tom Symonds we'll have more Easts juniors at rival clubs than we do at our own!!!!

Symonds must be retained for the goodness of the Roosters soul.

One of them will go with Braith taking a first grade spot every week *sigh*

This would be a sight to behold, reminds me of our packs early last decade!

Tom is a Rooster through and through. He would have to be pushed to leave.

you really have to question our retention policy so far this year re-signing Anasta/FPN was dumb both have been ghosts this year, no suprise our best two performances this year was with Symonds in the team, unfortunately by handing Anasta another year and paying overs for FPN on a multi-year deal we will see some of the up and coming talent forced out over the next 18 months.

I hate to say it but there is no way we should extends Mini's contract just because of the long service discount in the salary cap, unfortunately he has been crueled by injury and is now more of a liability in the team, he has just lost that ability to break tackles and gets dominated on kick returns and he tries to compensate by being another playmaker but just ends up getting in the way.

Anasta and FPN may have been resigned long term due to great seasons last year. Unfortunately Management don't have a crystal ball on how they would have played this year. it's a gamble and sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

                          .

That's how I feel. It would be nice to watch his career as a one-club player.

This is true. None of us expected Arona and Symonds to show, in their brief showings this year, more than the established Anasta and Nuuausala. We re-signed Anasta and FPN just before this season started, when their form last year warranted it, and rightly so. And considering Symonds and Arona are competing for Anasta's and FPN's spots directly, it is hard to say what would have happened.
