  • Myles is staying put, says Noyce

    http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/spo...-1226039980161

ROOSTERS boss Steve Noyce yesterday declared Nate Myles was going nowhere, with the Maroons star under lock and key until his contract expires at the end of 2012.
And Noyce says he has no plans to quiz the back-rower over his meeting with Gold Coast CEO Michael Searle.

The Daily Telegraph busted Myles and his manager Gavin Orr meeting with Searle at Sydney's Sheraton on the Park hotel on Thursday, in what shapes as the first steps in a move to the holiday strip.

And while Searle has made no secret of interest in the 25-year-old, Noyce insists the back-rower is staying at Bondi.

"Nate's here for another 20-odd months. Well, he's certainly contracted for another 20 months or so," the Roosters CEO said. "Our focus is on that more than anything else."

Asked if the club would consider an early release should Myles make a request, Noyce said: "You're getting ahead of yourself. He's contracted here for 21 months or whatever it is."

On a whirlwind day of player meetings, just days after locking up Jamal Idris for five years, Searle spoke with Myles, sacked Bulldogs prop Ryan Tandy and their managers, Orr and Sam Ayoub, at the Sheraton on Thursday afternoon in what was supposed to be a secret rendezvous.

A frustrated Myles and Orr disappeared into the underground carpark and then left the hotel after being spotted by The Daily Telegraph.

Noyce said the Roosters had no problem with Myles meeting Searle.

"Under the NRL rules that are in place now, players are able to have their meetings," he said.

"We know that they happen. Sometimes I guess people find out about them and maybe sometimes people don't."

Treat a person as he is, and he will remain as he is. Treat a person as if he were where he could be and should be, and he will become what he could be and should be.

Obviously just the way contract discussions are these days, I think some people have jumped the gun.

A bloke who gets knocked out in the early minutes of a game but gets up and puts all whilst wearing our club jersey gets my respect especially given some of our recent signings and dire seasons. Certainly says more to me than some newspaper article.

If he sees his contract out and the returns home I'll hold nothing against him.

Noyce wasn't very convincing. He didn't exactly talk about how valuable he is to the team or the club in general.

Let him go, the bloke is past his use by date anyway, swap him for lafranchi or minichiello jnr.

I'd rather Kevin Gordon to replace mini or Ryan James.

Neither of those players holds a candle to Nate Myles.

                Chook.

So he hasn't ruled out that he is unhappy and looking to leave then?

I think it's pretty obvious he wants to leave.

i don't see our management desperately trying to keep him. We've got stacks of backrowers suitable to take his spot and if he leaves it frees up a fair bit of coin to but a someone we rally need, like a fullback.

Exactly. Talking to clubs when you still have nearly two years left on your contract doesn't exactly fill me with much confidence, both in him staying and how much he cares about the club. If both Mini and Myles left, we could make a serious play for a great fullback AND a world-class forward (preferred option for me)/centre/winger, especially if guys like Graham, Riddell and Ryles left.

can someone explain to me how we get from 'myles in contract talks with gold coast' a headline which has since been labelled as rubbish by our clubs CEO, to 'clearly myles is unhappy'. How the **** would you know he's unhappy, except by basing it on the fact he's struggled to find a bit of form so far, by that token that would mean that ryles, riddell, fpn, and t carney are all unhappy at the club and we should just let them go as well (not that i would be necessarily heartbroken to see the back of riddell, but that said unlike a lot of people here i think Ryles still has a lot to offer)
I support two NRL teams, the Roosters and whoevers playing Souths

Happy players don't go for tours at opposition clubs with the CEO and his manager with nearly two years left on their contract. Happy players usually smile and make eye contact with the members section after a win, instead of looking down and forlorn. He's not happy at the moment and there is a good chance he wants to leave. He hasn't even made a comment on the situation.
