Gotta say, I was surprised to read that as well.

The only players I can think of on decent coin in your squad would be Minichiello, Todd Carney, Anasta, Warea Hargreaves and Myles. Have I missed anyone? Possibly, SKD but I think he re-signed during 2009 when things weren't going so well for him.

SKD signed a big contract at the start of this season. Something like 400k per season. Mini should be getting the veteran's discount and won't be on much. JWH I don't think would be on much more than 250-300k. I'm pretty sure he made his NZ debut after he came to us, so unless his contract is structured so that he gets a payrise for been a full international, I don't think he would on a huge amount. Even then he isn't a top-tier forward. Anasta is on plenty. So is Carney, Pearce and Myles. FPN and Perrett would be on a bit also but not that much. Beyond that I wouldn't think we would be paying our players that much. I mean, compare todays sides if at full strength:

1. Mini - former Origin and International - incentive based due to injuries. Plus he gets the veteran bonus...
2. Carney - average first grader picked up cheap
3. Phil "I'm the next Daniel Fitzhenry" Graham - who?
4. SKD - superstar. Worth every penny.
5. Perrett - full NZ international.
6. Carney - superstar. Best player in the game.
7. Pearce - Current NSW rep. On plenty.
8. Kennedy - playing great but is not on a rep standard contract
9. Friend - quality player but on incentive based contract due to his indiscretions
10. Ryles - Former NSW and Australian rep. Hated Europe (why? uncultured swine) and begged for contract.
11. Aubusson - not sure....
12. Anasta - on plenty
13. Myles - on plenty

14. Masoe - only just came into grade
15. JWH - full NZ international - possibly on plenty.
16. FPN - full NZ international
17. Leilua - talented but still on old contract


Saints
1. Boyd - on plenty - QLD and Australian international.
2. Morris - on plenty - NSW and Australian international.
3. Gasnier - will be on plenty come next season. May be on plenty now.
4. Cooper - on plenty - NSW and Australian international.
5. Nightingale - underpaid.

6. Soward - key to Saints fortunes. Won't be on huge contract but will be once he plays Origin.
7. Hornby - cheap

8. Weyman - on plenty
9. Fien - full NZ international. Won't be on much though.
10. Hunt - cheap
11. Scott - on plenty since Origin
12. Creagh - on plenty since Origin
13. Prior - bargain

14. Merrin (must chase this guy. Good player and Saints may struggle to keep him) - breakout season last season. Will play Origin. Hasn't yet so will be cheap...
15. Green - cheap
16. Young - will be on a bit
17. Stanley - bargain.

So I don't know what is going on there. Maybe I am blinded by the RWB but comparing us to the Saints, the Saints have a far stronger side filled with current internationals and Origin players, and players who are fringe Origin and internationals.
