For those that have a stopwatch, time how long each player is held in the tackle.
You will find saints hold for an extra second then release their arms very fast to cover it.

      The refs know.

We are expected to play "Superleague" rules, bounce up off opposition players faster than 'the speed of light'.

        It's a joke.

        The NRL...50-50 ARL-Superleague partnership.

Didn't 'all' the top refs go to Murdoch and Superleague?

Our 'crime' of course was staying loyal to the ARL.

'Superleague' is really more than 50%, isn't it?

Since the infamous "You're off your head" comments by Braith to Cummins in our final match of 2007 we have won 17 penalty counts in 84 matches.

          Sorry, but that's beyond suspicious.

Mmm... rather than running into space? Silly stuff unless you are confident he can do a Jonah Lomu and run right over sAAAAAwood, avoiding merrin, prior, weyman, scott, creagh and co in the process.

JWH is more an ectomorph anyway... he's 190cm and lighter than mick weyman! Tall and skinny sure... but he isn't this big tanky battering ram many seem to believe he is. Still waiting to see him play like "the next Sonny Bill Williams..."

Sorry I know I'm just fighting + being a d!ck, but IMO we don't need big guys going alone and smashing little players for no reason. We need to work as a team where we have big men running at space WITH PACE (not off loopy flick passes.) Just secure, hard runs at space.

I don't give a fark if Soward gets smashed... he's a carnt, but so what? Tries scored by running into space look better than big dominant runs that annihilate Soward 20m out from thr try line.

You make it sound all so easy... lets just run into space We have to create that space, it doesn't just magically appear. The idea of a big man targetting a small man is not just to try and hurt him as you seem to think. There are other reasons such as:

              - tiring the defender by making him use energy trying to tackle a much bigger man
              - make a break by targetting a perceived weak defender
              - get a quick play the ball because a small man is unlikely to be able to perform a dominant tackle on a much bigger man
              - draw defenders in to assist the smaller man, creating space out wide.

I'm not advocating that we target Soward, merely highlighting reasons why you send a big man at a smaller defender. In some instances, the 'space' you want us to run into is actually created by the big bopper taking on the smaller man. Rarely is it as simple as a coach telling his players to run into space at pace.

One of the keys to victory (apart from good completion rates, patience, good defence) is getting up off the line fast and putting pressure on Soward. It has been shown a few times that if you pressure him (because he is a coward) he will often take the wrong option and his kicking game is nowhere near as good.

Just have to make sure that nobody goes early (or ref will blow the pea out of the whistle), and go up as a straight line.

The Sharks did this so effectively and it worked a treat, can't believe more teams haven't tried it.

Anyway I have gone for the upset of the year and picked the Roosters to win this weekend might get me some nice pocket money

more often than not, Soward stands back 10m or so to kick it anyway.. he stands quite deep and is well protected in almost all facets

As opposed to running between 2 players (say between Hornby and sAAAAAwood), making them uncertain, forcing the big men to choose left or right (creating overlap.) If they know "oh he's just gonna try to smash sAAAAAwood" then you create absolutely no confusion or overlap. Sure you might get another quick play (of) the ball, but I'd say running between players is better than running at them.

Anyway I've haggled too much, sorry forum...

I will still maintain, Don't run the gaps, run at the induviduals.

run at them, make them draw 2 - 3 people into the tackle.

if we are going to take them, we may as well go and take them HEAD ON !!!!

The point of running at soward is to tire him out from tackling a lot.

LOL @ anyone who thinks JWH is the next SBW. The three letter abreviation is about where the similarities stop.
