  • I'd bring Carney sraight back

I see no purpose at all in Carney not playing footy. None excpet make matters worse for him and us.
It's what he knows best and loves.
In fact if he could play 3 games a week, that would be a better alternative than having him sitting and watching.
Sure he needs to get his head together, but does that really work by just having time off the game? How will anyone know "when he is ready" to return.
I say that instead if him just being "suspended indefinitely" that he has a week off then returns. The club lowers their expectations of him to be the superstar he was last year. He will get better with every game.
I don't give a flying f%^& what anyone else thinks about him returning now. They can bag us and our club all they like. we need to do what we want to do and what's best for Todd and f*&% what everyone else is telling us to do.

Take no notice of all these smart-ass morons bagging him, us, and our club.
Think he needs to have a few weeks break from playing, let all the drama die down, let his injury heal, embrace a new 'early to bed-early to rise' lifestyle living with his mother if and when she arrives.
He also needs the medical evaluation people to give him strategies to put in place so he doesn't break any more rules.

No friends and no girlfriend don't make for a very happy life for a young man.
      No wonder he'd depressed.

I dont think he really wants to play ATM. Didnt he lie to try and get out of a game ? I also read somewhere that he was very hesitant of playing against the warriors.

I guess my point is that instead of just letting him make excuses for not playing - "not fit" "tired" "bad headspace" etc, he should be encouraged to press through that and play.

Unless of course, as Loz said, he is physically unfit

I think the year he had last year was a bit too much for someone struggling with personal reasons especially fighting to overcome an addiction...he was loved by all and put on a pedestal and the pressure has been too much for him...he eventually cracked...too much pressure on something fragile will see it crack and break...

I too would prefer to see him out there playing on the field and getting involved heavily in his footy...but if his head's not right then it will only increase the pressure...maybe it might be a good idea to send him up to Atherton every 2nd year and bring him back the alternate year when he's really hungry and missed the NRL really badly...

I want to see Carney play this year but I think he needs to get that groin 110%.

I don't want his injury to be a time bomb or hear that they need to manage it every week because with our luck it will flare up right before the semis.

Do you really think Uncle Nick and Smithy give two hoots about what Hadley, beetroot face or any other supporters think about when Todd should be back playing?

So your remedy for a guy who is struggling with depression is to make him do something he doesn't want to do?

Yep, that will fix him up for sure. No way would he want to turn to drink after that!

I'd like to see Carney back on the field soon rather than later.

Right now he is probably struggling with feelings of guilt and remorse at letting himself down and those who trusted in him, the club and especially his family, friends and team mates.

I hope he's champing at the bit for the opportunity to make amends by getting back on the field and doing what he does best. And also hit back at those who have attacked him in the media.

But only if he is 100% fit and more importantly his team mates start showing
some support by playing with guts and pride in the jersey starting this ANZAC day.

Until then the club should ensure that he is actively involved with the team as much as possible including attending all games (with his mum).

Depression sets in when you have nothing to do. If Carney is left at home feeling sorry for himself, he can kiss league career goodbye, if he does suffer from depression.

I heard Coach Smith interviewed twice today, twice he was evasive and all he said was that Todd was training with the squad.

I would not feel like Richard Callander had fallen on me if Carney played this weekend.
