Favourite Names

[Johnny Tobin]

Seeing a poster called Amco Cup made me start thinking about some of my favourite names for Wallsters (or should I say Pensters).

Names that bring a smile to my face when I see them. It has nothing to do with what they say or who they are.

My faves include:

Amco Cup
Pass the Ball
Crikey Chris
The Ticket
Buddy
The Axe
Tommy Smith

I am sure there are more that I will remember when I think about them.

Anyone else have some favourites? It's not a popularity contest. It can't have anything to do with what they say or who they are. Just the names man.

Chook Norris is a classic username. I like the ones that are a play on words.

Mine is pretty boring for footy fans. I read a lot of novels, particularly by Nelson DeMille. He has a character in some of his books, John Corey. A very funny, sarcastic , smart ass NYPD cop who just loves to break all the rules. Being in that job for most of my life I sort of admired the way he did things, fiction or not.

And JT I take offense John Corey is not one of your faves 😱

He (Adrian Morley) has already received a three-year driving ban, in addition to a fine and serving 40 hours of community service, after being stopped for driving erratically in Salford on December 13 and then attempting to evade arrest - first by running through a field and then, when he was tackled by two policemen, giving the false name of Tommy Smith - before providing a positive breath test.

I remember having a good laugh when reading about this incident. I could just picture a pissed Mozza giving a fake name to coppers. Hence, if it was a good enough fake name for the Great Englishman then it was a good enough fake name for me!

I always thought Newman had the perfect name and picture profile for someone so full of their own self importance. It was even funnier that Newman had a running battle with stsae who I imagined could possibly be Jerry Seinfeld.

Mine harks back to a great time in my life, the early 90's. It was before puberty - before life became real - when Easts were rubbish and our most creative player was the legendary Craig Salvatori. For the young amongst us, "Salvo" was an indigenous Italian Australian who was also a local Junior. He was an Origin Prop in a period where we had ZERO Origin reps, and I recall fondly big Salvo putting in grubbers for repeat sets at a scarcely populated SFS.

Being a passionate footy fan and following your team religiously during a dark period is what it's all about.
