Correct me if I'm wrong bro'. All the outstanding performers in round 1, being Eels, Souffs, us n the Riff had completion rates in the 60s in round one.

It busts the long held theory of many on this forum that we will win every time we have at least 50% of the ball and complete at least at 80% too....

Perhaps, but i'd say that's moreso the strength of our opposition rather than the causation. I'd say that the coaching staff put a lot more emphasis on completion rates, at training, when we vs solid completers like Souths. As a result our completions are higher, but our opposition is also tougher. As such, who our opposition is, perhaps, causes the emphasis at training to be on completions rather than high completions causing the loss

Last season Souths would of lost last week's game. Their monotone like power game relied on high completions to control field position and then bash their opposition into submission. This year they are playing are more open style where they give the ball more air earlier in tackles. Both Parra and penrith have similar styles. I feel we need to rid ourselves of our clinical style with a bomb to finish every set. Trent needs to open up our attack and let the boys loose, free the Roosters.

Our stats in possession were about as good as they've been under Robbo last week, without the ball however was as Robbo said "unacceptable."

When both sides of the ball click on the same day we beat anyone and everyone, period.

We were outplayed last week. No excuses. Attack looked slick at times but too many missed tackles. I still can't work out how to use jwh most effectively. Once we unlock him we will be a much better side.

I suspect it's probably more of a long term statistical thing. In this case we got close but didn't win. However, over 1000 games I suspect we'd win a significantly higer percentage of games where we've had more possession.

That said, footy's not always a mathematical game. After the game I heard Robbo say 'no SKD didn't cost us the game... there's so many other plays where we lost out'. Possession shows that we were reasonably well disciplined and hung onto the ball. IMO this definitely gave us more opportunities and took a lot of the pressure off. However, winning comes down to individual moments. The Souths game was the Souths game... no other game will play out in the same way.

For example, against Penrith we could have 30% possession and be defending back to back repeat sets for 70 minutes without letting a try in. This kinda game can be won by Penrith getting exhausted/desperate and letting in a flurry of tries within the last 10.

The Souths game was a really close game. Unfortunately Maloney had a bad day with the (conversion) boot and Souths scored most of their tries in the middle of the field. They scored 1 extra try with roughly 50% of possession in a game that coulda gone either way. As a result, I don't think it's a classic game where we've lost despite having more possession. It was more of a 50:50 possession nail biter.

Mcillwricks missed tackle on GI [souths go the lenght], SKDs dropped ball over the line, no Jake, Fergo's 3rd game in 18months, I won't keep going but will say that Souths are already close to their best.
