  • Dylan Napa

SYDNEY Roosters young gun Dylan Napa has signed a two-year contract extension to remain with the eastern suburbs club until the end of 2017. Regarded as one of the best emerging forwards in the NRL, Napa was hotly pursued by a host of clubs headed by St George Illawarra but will remain loyal to the club who signed him aged 17.
Napa, 22, was suspended from last seasons finals series until the grand final qualifier, meaning the rookie front rower watched the Roosters one-point loss to the Panthers in the dying seconds of the opening week of the finals from the sideline

Great news but having every player re-sign until 2017 is not going to help us.

Agreed. But perhaps it's due to cap increases, which can be absorbed into new contracts for these guys come 2018.

He supposedly could have gotten better money elsewhere just like JWH.
          Gotta love and respect loyalty.
          Good on you Napa.

New broadcasting rights deal comes up after 2017 I believe......could be the reason a lot of contracts ending around 2017..

Would you rather we'd let him go?

If we don't stop retaining players, we might have trouble retaining players.

Was just thinking that. Retaining him now means we might struggle to retain him down the track.......

No, but we could have signed him to a longer contract.

We have a lot of major players coming off contract in 2017, we're going to have the same problem we have this year in two years.

I sort of happy with a 2 year contract, keeps the players on their toes, and I think long term contracts can get out of hand, just check with Manly and St George and probably a couple of other teams that have engaged the old back ended long term. If a player looses significant form, easier to deal with, as there are probably lots of clubs who don't have the players there anymore, but are paying a significant part of their salary.

Lets worry about 2 years time in 2 years time. People were worried about this year a coupe of years ago, but it's all worked out pretty well in the end.

In the meantime there's a comp to be won this year.

This is the fact that because Napa has this history of the shoulder charge - all his hits will be scrutinised. Just like JWH gets put under the microscope for any kind of aggressive action he puts on an opposition player - legal or not

I reckon it was just the exclamation mark on signing his new deal.. I love how he now knows to bring the arms up when he hits.. Can't be penalised for that.

Should these players really be on retainers perhaps?
