We don't need to go back to the well with Toddy... In fact it would make us look quite silly.
And I don't think we will anyway.
Money better spent elsewhere.
Imagine him and Fergo??...

Carney's manager on 2016 #NRL return: "I can tell you quite categorically we have not had an approach from the Roosters re Todd Carney"

Beside the fact he is a belter with a drinking problem, signing him means Maloney is no longer here. Therefore it is a ridiculous idea. Maloney is worth more to this Club.
Todd Carney had one good season with us. In 2011 he was horrible and he has been in the decline ever since. Rooster 6 you are obviously rating him over 1 season and 1 season only. 2010.
It would be diabolical to have this lunatic return.Embrace the Hate! JC

im glad I don't have to make this decision, I tend to think jimmy bbq is currently the better option even though he is aging a bit for a 5/8 he brings that mature attitude to the team now we no longer have mini, that's something wed never have with toddy!

Originally posted by Rooster_6 View PostWHISPERS of a Todd Carney return to the NRL in 2016 have now turned into screams with reports emerging the Roosters may be planning a sensational play for the five-eighth who they sacked just under four years ago.
Carney, who recently won a wrongful dismissal case against the Sharks, is likely to be given the green light to return to NRL if he adheres to strict behavioural guidelines.
Despite being sacked by the club in 2011 for a string of misdemeanors, the playmaker is still admired by Roosters supremo Nick Politis and has a strong relationship with coach Trent Robinson who was an assistant to Brian Smith in Carneys Dally M-winning season in 2010.
It is believed certain Roosters officials have reached out to Carney and are reportedly planning to engage in formal talks with the 28-year-olds Super League Club Catalans about the possibility of an early release from his three-year deal.
Robinson also has strong ties to the French-based outfit having coached there for two seasons between 2011-2012.
The Roosters premiership-winning five-eighth James Maloney is off-contract at seasons end and has attracted the interest of a number of clubs, primarily Manly.
Maloney and his management have only engaged in preliminary contract talks with the club and is seeking a long-term deal to remain at Bondi.
The Sea Eagles have also been linked with Carney as they hunt down a superstar half to build the club around following the shock departures of Daly Cherry-Evans and Kieran Foran at seasons end.
If the Roosters are to capture Carneys signature it would be a major coup for a club who already boasts the most talented roster in the NRL.
It would also see Carney reunite with Mitchell Pearce in the halves. The talented duo not only helped take the Roosters all the way to the grand final in 2010 but also represented NSW in Origin in 2012.
In his time at the Tri-colours, Carney racked up 44 games and scored a total of 316 points.

The pros and cons have already been well outlined here, he's not going to cost as much as Maloney but he has had a very poor run with injuries over the past few seasons. So it's a tough one.
At the end of the day though if Robbo wants to back himself to bring him back to the club I say Welcome Home Toddy. They only ever spent one season together (2010) and not much more needs to be said about that.
There are some bad eggs that we can't fix and some we can. This guy we cannot fix. He's just another Ben Cousins. Has been repetitively given the boot wherever he goes.Last edited by davos; 03-27-2015, 04:32 PM.Comment of the year:

I don't agree with the premise that he's declined though, players don't just loose their ability in their mid 20's. I rebutted the same arguments made throughout 2011 & 2012 when players like Friend, Pearce & Aubusson were getting attacked for poor team performances. Ability doesn't just disappear or decline in your mid 20's, circumstances affect performance more than gradual decline ever does.
