I rate him based on his whole career, which long predates 2010 and long succeeds it too. Like I said the injuries would be the biggest issue for mine, there's no doubt it has affected his running game which is such a huge part of who he is as a player so it's definitely a big concern.
I don't agree with the premise that he's declined though, players don't just loose their ability in their mid 20's. I rebutted the same arguments made throughout 2011 & 2012 when players like Friend, Pearce & Aubusson were getting attacked for poor team performances. Ability doesn't just disappear or decline in your mid 20's, circumstances affect performance more than gradual decline ever does.
Do you really believe he has done anything above average since 2010? He did nothing with Cronulla that closely resembled 2010. I get your point pre 2010 with Canberra.
Players do lose their ability if their body does not allow them to play at their best.
He is a guy who has constantly had leg problems. Whether it be hammy, groin, Achilles. The guy is on the decline, probably because history shows his rehab after games has never been what it should be. And I'm talking about staying off alcohol when carrying injuries. It Is a fact that he abuses alcohol. A guy with constant leg injuries needs to be professional enough to treat them properly. I don't think the guy has the brains to do so. Once you do your hammy and your groin, the older you get, the worse they get. Particularly if you are not looking after your body as you should. He is going to have these leg injuries for the rest of whatever career he has. And I hope like hell he is never a part of this Club again.
Pearce, Friend and Maubs were in the their mid-20s in 2011 & 2012?
Maybe Maubs... could have fooled me with the other two! I also don't recall them having a string of serious injuries. But apart from that, totally legit comparison to Carney!
And Benji Marshall completely lost his step at around the age of 28. I don't see why it hasn't/won't continue to happen to Carney who would be 29 1/2 when he would return for 2016.

You must have missed those self high 5's r6 was giving himself. They were all early 20's btw.. Carney is like a car that purred like a kitten for 5 years and has now been in and out of the smash repairers and auto mechanics for the last 5. Thinking he will come back to anywhere near his 2010 form is laughable. If you think about it, if he were such a good option, he would already be here.
Carney was pretty good at the Sharks but he never came close to his 2010 form, and he never will again.
Maloney is by far the superior option, he's more consistent, better goal kicker, a better clubman and rarely injured. The only thing Carney has going for him is he might cost less, and if we needed a cheap option I'd much prefer Hastings.
Outside of Jonathan Thurston he's without a shadow of a doubt IMO the most naturally gifted 5/8 of this generation.
The pros and cons have already been well outlined here, he's not going to cost as much as Maloney but he has had a very poor run with injuries over the past few seasons. So it's a tough one.
At the end of the day though if Robbo wants to back himself to bring him back to the club I say Welcome Home Toddy. They only ever spent one season together (2010) and not much more needs to be said about that.
I thought he would end up better than Freddy for us.
A couple of weeks ago Uncle Nick was quoted saying we had turned him around "and then politics got in the way".
And a couple of weeks back Cordner was in the media saying he should be allowed back.
But I don't want him.
Incidentally, just because he won an unfair dismissal case doesn't mean he can come back into the NRL. It means he was unfairly dismissed because of the process. They could have done it right and sacked him.
We cannot forget that he pissed in his own mouth - a number of times. Let him be someone else's problem.
I'd say no to Carnage returning. Although he is one of the most naturally talented in his prime, those days are long gone. Very Andrew Walker-esque, but like walker, has Shit for brains. Keep Jimmy if possible, but I think it's too early to give Hastings the number 6 jersey just yet.

He never put together a full season, or even half a season for that matter but there were periods that he put together where he was quite good. The biggest issue at Cronulla IMO was never the injuries but the fact they tried to turn him into a halfback, something he never was and never will be. He’s a creative player and needs someone to take all the organisational roles off him, something Pearce did so well for him.

My medical knowledge and experience on the topic is limited so I’ll just have to agree to disagree. People said the same thing about Darren Lockyer when he suffered all those injuries late in his career but his last couple of season were as dominant and as crucial as anything he dished up in his prime.
