  • Should Cordner and Guerra be rested?

Both these boys play big minutes and get through a mountain of work. They are also very important to our chances of winning the comp and, will more than likely play in this years SOO series which is extremely taxing.

Should Robbo(alternately) rest them every 5 to 6 games to keep them fresh and firing at the pointy end of the season?

    Cheers.

      Care to expand on that.

How much footy have these 2 boys played since the start of 2013? Did you watch todays game? Guerra looked shot in the second half.Sluggish and falling off tackles.Don't forget that fatigue was our biggest issue at the end of last season and both these boys also played Four Nations.

For starters they will both be pretty pissed off with their coach and Club as they are playing for State of Origin positions. It is far too early to even think of resting players. I'm sure the coach is smart enough to recognize fatigue in players and if so he would scale back their training instead. You rest players if and when you are in a position on the table to do so, closer to semi finals.

How did the monitoring of fatigue go last season?Let's just hope we learnt something.

Sure it's early in the season, but Guerra looks like he's already struggling and imo it's not match fitness.

Resting should occur through training. Emphasis will be on recovery rather than fitness and strength. The roosters have first class training, recovery and nutritional systems to manage player fatigue. Last season was a different story but I wouldn't be resting from games.

There young and fit and very capable of playing these minutes... plus the benefits of having them on for 80 far out weigh the negatives.. our rotation atm is VERY strong

They are professional footballers. No need to rest them.

If we have to start resting players four games into the season then we are in deep sh!t.

I think too many people are trying to read into Guerra's quiet game on the weekend. I thought he went ok. It is probably more a case of not 100% fit rather than fatigue.

Cordner has been one of our best players each week.

Guerra has been making big tackles each week. Close to 40 if not more most weeks.

2026 spelling this early , I am not sure is warranted.
One thing I am sure about is that they are doing a mountain of work , I haven't seen the stats yet but if Che didn' t top the tackle count he came close and if my memory serves me correctly he ran the perfect decoy for the first couple of tries and used as a decoy just about all day, his GPS would probably show the exact number of metres travelled.
Sure he fell off a few tackles , but usually cause he is cleaning up someone elses miss in the first place and is caught wrong footed as long as he stays in the chase and herds them into the next tackle - job done.
Boyd and Che are an integral part of this team either in D or attack , with the ball in hand or running decoys ( cause the opposition know they are dangerous ) , our rotation is solid and has shown after the weekend that we can compensate for a few key injuries throughout the course.

Yes, both should be rested. The poor darlings are into rd4 of a 24week competition, both maý as well get thrown on the scrap heap when the new interchange laws come in, if they cant play four games in a row after an off season break.

One would think that we'd struggle to beat the likes of the Titans, Sharks and Dragons without one of these boys.

With respect, you all to have short memories.

We hit the wall with 20 minutes to go round 26 vs Souffs and never really recovered. We played the remainder of the games on 'auxiliary mode' losing to Penrith and faded horribly against the Cows after going 30 - 0 up and only just managed to scrape home to win 31-30.Robbo stated in the pressor after the prelim that Souff just had too much energy for us.

Once you hit the wall the way we did, it's all over and too late to start resting players.

All i'm suggesting is a little forward planning and giving these 2 workhorses who are critical to our chances of winning the comp a rest every 6 or so games.

2026 you may be right , but my theory is you have to play big minutes to get used to playing big minutes.

At this stage of the year it is a bit early to be considering spells, Prelims are miles away.

Using last year as a gauge can be a bit misleading as well, cause there were few more factors that contributed to our end of season capitulation.

This year is a clean slate new approach , new attitude , new combinations and for that matter new roles for key personnel, lets see what unfolds, seems to be working at the moment.

Not saying that it wont need to be addressed later in the season and then maybe a spell might do the trick.
