  • Snapper head is back

I thought that was by far his best game all season. His work today was top class

Great game, but as the saying goes "one game doesnt make a season"..

What he did today is exactly what I expect from him every week. Aubusson was much better in the forwards too, lurking on the fringes and outstanding defense.

Masoe, Hargreaves (other than the error) and Kennedy performed their battering ram roles very well today too.

Nuuausala is much better as an impact man off the bench. With Anasta in the halves and Symonds injured, I would have Arona starting on the left-hand fringe where he did some good work with offloads and crafty running.

Conn was average though. Running was a bit soft, and pushed the offload rather than did it smartly. Until Carney comes back, the forward pack should be:

      8. Ryles
      9. Friend
      10. Kennedy
      11. Arona (left fringe - until Symonds returns)
      12. Aubusson (right fringe)
      13. Myles

      14. Riddell (give Friend a spell)
      15. Nuuausala/Conn (both play the hard-running offload role, can only carry one)
      16. Hargreaves
      17. Masoe

Ryles and Kennedy rotate with Hargreaves and Masoe. Nuuausala/Conn rotate with Myles. Arona/Symonds and Aubusson should be playing 80 minutes IMO, as specified fringe runners.

I agree but good signs as we have missed the workload in the middle, great also to see Aubs back in the pack

The issue today and for most of the season has been halves/backline. Perrett injured, Minichiello inconsistent, SKD quiet, Linnett and Graham dropped, Leilua and J Carney underwhelming.

Let us put it this way...assuming that the rest of the team is pretty much set as:

          1. Minichiello, 2. J Carney (until Perrett returns), 3. Kenny-Dowall, 4. ???, 5. Leilua, 6. ???, 7. Pearce, 8. Ryles, 9. Friend, 10. Kennedy, 11. ???, 12. Aubusson, 13. Myles, BENCH: 14. ???, 15. Nuuausala, 16. Hargreaves, 17. Masoe

...in the current circumstances with Carney and Symonds out, I would have:

          4. Graham/Linnett - 6. Anasta - 11. Arona - 14. Riddell

...then when Symonds returns, I would have:

          4. Graham/Linnett - 6. Anasta - 11. Symonds - 14. Riddell

...and when Todd Carney hopefully returns, I would have either:

          4. Symonds - 6. Carney - 11. Anasta - 14. Riddell

          OR

          4. Graham/Linnett - 6. Carney - 11. Anasta - 14. Symonds

I'd really be trying to build some consistency around the rest of the team. Keep Leilua on the wing, Aubusson in the backrow, maintain the prop rotation as it is now, use Arona as cover for the fringe-running backrowers, and Conn as cover for the props or Nuuausala only. Too much shifting and chopping and changing makes me think of what Ricky and Freddy used to do.

Our team last year flourished on the basis of selection consistency for most part. Extended runs in single positions/roles.

Today's game proved that we cannot be a force without Carney.

People like Big Mike and Rebecca Wilson need to realise that we would have finished 13th without him last year.

Myles had a very good game today. His defence was excellent.

I guess now that his future on the Gold Coast is finally secure he can get his head back onto the footy.

                        And deservedly so.
I'll be sick if he goes to the tightuns.

His defence was brutal.. A cynic would suggest that the Test side is being picked after next weekend and with origin not too far away he has decided to lift his game.
