Not trying to predict the outcome or assert any legal knowledge or anything, but I had a quick look at the Act and sure... I'd be saying a max of roughly 27 years depending on how the Court goes.

Robbery alone in s 94 of the Crimes ACT 1900 (NSW)... 'Whosoever: robs or assaults with intent to rob any person, or steals any chattel, money, or valuable security from the person of another, shall, except where a greater punishment is provided by this Act, be liable to imprisonment for fourteen years.'

s 96... 'Whosoever commits any offence under section 95, and thereby wounds or inflicts grievous bodily harm on any person, shall be liable to imprisonment for 25 years.'

Those two are already pretty serious, but then you get to s 97:
97 Robbery etc or stopping a mail, being armed or in company
      (1) Whosoever, being armed with an offensive weapon, or instrument, or being in company with another person,
robs, or assaults with intent to rob, any person, or
stops any mail, or vehicle, railway train, or person conveying a mail, with intent to rob, or search the same,
shall be liable to imprisonment for twenty years.
I dunno and I'm not going to go predicting Court outcomes...etc. However... 'The 19-year-old man has been charged with robbery in company and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.' If this charge is upheld then it looks like they're going for the double whammy. Potentially 20 years for the s 97 robbery in company... then on top of it, an assault occasioning actual bodily harm. This would probably be under s 59:
59 Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
      (1) Whosoever assaults any person, and thereby occasions actual bodily harm, shall be liable to imprisonment for five years.
      (2) A person is guilty of an offence under this subsection if the person commits an offence under subsection (1) in the company of another person or persons. A person convicted of an offence under this subsection is liable to imprisonment for 7 years.
How quickly a promising young athlete can be facing roughly 27 years in prison (okay so probably not 27 years, that's the maximum... however, it's pretty scary!) WTF were you thinking man?!?!?!?

        Damn good work, man.

Add the fact that he's a trained mauler at 120 kg and I can't see the Judge being lenient.

I reckon he'll go inside for 3 years, out in 1.5.

Adding to that I have sympathy for the guy, but taking my Easts glasses off for a moment I must say that he should be locked up. That could have been my Dad or brother assaulted by the meat head.

Let's get Russel Packer to replace him, a straight bed swap.

            Chook.

This is the route of our problem, we are seen to be a club that will take anyone that has talent but are of poor character. It will always come back and bite you on the arse. We need to send a message to all the players that we are a serious club and will no tolerate bad behavior no matter how talented you maybe.

Its just upsetting hearing about this, young talented kid, who is he hanging around with etc and getting involved with !!! If you want to make it as an athlete / sportsman, you have to have discipline and determination. Not hanging around the streets and that time of morning and then playing that day and most likely drinking.

Nothing good happens after Midnight as the saying goes. He has let his team mates down and with a big game against the Broncos this week, they need him. Reminds me of the similar incident with Jamil Hopoate bashing a man in Manly and now in prison. I just hope lessons have been learnt, a big wake up call and some good news for both parties

Any updates on this thug? I guess it is premature calling him that but CCTV footage would not seem to lie. I don't think he will do time but he needs to exit the NRL for a year or two and figure out what he wants out of life.

On this forum most of us never meet the players. We assume they are good guys, good people, etc. It seems Meehan is just a street thug. From the perspective of a professional fighter he has really sunk low to beat up on a civilian for what was probably a cheap watch.

RISING NRL star Willis Meehan recently spent 12 days inside the same northern beaches rehabilitation centre Ben Barba attended as the suspended Sydney Roosters forward attempts to get his life back on track.
Meehan, 19, voluntarily stood down from all Sydney Roosters club commitments after being arrested and charged with a robbery and assault near The Star Casino on April 4.
The Australian Schoolboys and Junior Kangaroos star will face Downing Centre Local Court on May 6 and hopes a stint in an alcohol and gambling rehabilitation centre will help demonstrate his contrition to the court.

Can someone explain to me why Greg Bird and co. can play pending their Court case, however, Meehan cannot. Had he got done for supplying or possession of drug, surely he'd still be playing like the others.

I thought bird was stood down for the rest of the season and then played the following year in England?

Did the nrl stand meehan down or the roosters?
