It was all the manager. He was the Worriers football manager and has been desperate to get him there for ages. He wants his star player close by so no other manager can get to him.

It's pretty clear we had little chance once they became interested. McFadden in his interview seemed to think they would get him when they wanted him and Tomkins made that now.

This is about money, pure and simple. $800K is a lot of money for a 21 year old. It will set up his life regardless of whether he fully realises his potential as a footballer. Every week, he is only a mis-step away from an injury that could destroy his value as an athlete - think Russell Fairfax after he broke his leg.

You don't seem to understand the power the manager has over his player - especially the young players. Very few would go against their manager's advice.

This one had a conflict of interest but Roger is too naive to see it.

I agree with what you have said, but I just worry that his manager will be so difficult to work with and as such, if Roger really wants to stay, his manager will make the whole thing very complicated.

However, I can't see him staying. 800k is a lot for a 21 year old and you can't blame him for jumping on that. I'm sure we'd all jump on it if we were in the same position. Like Robbo said, he deserves to take up this offer and we should be grateful for what he did at the Roosters. It's also good for the club that they didn't enter a bidding war for his services; if we matched the warriors offer, you could pretty much say goodbye to the likes of Jennings, Moa and others who are off contract in 2016/17. One player shouldn't lead to losing valuable members if the squad (unless he's someone like freddy or joey)
