  • Paul Kent analysis to Todd Greenberg

I was very impressed last night with his direct and conclusive interigation of the Referees to Tood Greenberg on NRL 360. He was clearly stating that the referees are not doing their job properly, not really being accountable for their bad decisions and the unfair treatment that coaches or players are not allowed to question their bad calls.
I bet you right now he is ringing around and investigating whether or not they haven't renewed the contracts of some referees from last year, as I believe that is a false statement by Greenberg. Coaches inquire about bad decisions on a weekly basis but do not get an answer from Tony Archer which is a point he is trying to make. If Paul Kent had more time he would pick so many bad decisions that have not being noticed and publically display them to give the fans satisfaction. He has made it quite public that he believes the Roosters get treated differently than other teams in regards to officiating as weeks ago he made a point that since 2006 we have been through 5 different coaches and more than 50 new players in and out and yet we are the most penalised team in the NRL.
It has also convinced me mroe that referees are guessing decisions on the feild and in the video box too often. I sat in Bay 15 on Sunday and was right in line with the passes that were deemed forward by Ben Cummins on that led in to two tries which would have one us the game. Both Cummins and the touch judge were not anywhere in line to see the ball nor the pass. Everyone in Bays 15, 16 and 17 (including Sharks Supporters) all believed that both passes we OK so yet again I support Paul Kent's comments that officials are second guessing out there.
I strongly believe that last friday evening will occur again this season and that the issue with the performance of Referees will not change simply because Greenberg has made them a protected speicies from criticism as journalists are baitng the caoches in press conferences and the Coaches know they cannot say anything and the media will not get to publish it so can some one please tell me the marketing strategy for that? Money is made from those comments both ebing published in the media so if they can't explain what really occurred then how can the media make money off it???
In conclusion, the whole NRL officiating system is a farce and an embarrassment in professional sport....

If i could change some rules they would be:

    * the ref should not have to determine solely if it is a try or no try, because the amount of influence it gives, makes it too hard for the vidiot to overturn. Some decisions should be left for the vidiot alone. One example being the try that was disallowed for the panther v us, the vidiot should of been able to over turn it, but on field ref said no try.

    * penalties have to much influence, if a penalty is given, a new set of 6 should start where the penalty was awarded, no kick for touch. Or kick for touch but resume tackle count from when penalty was awarded.

*charge downs should not restart the tackle count.

Golden point, both teams should have the opportunity to at least get the ball once.

Captains challenge, the greg inglis dropped ball penalty was atrocious, a captains challenge would of had it overturned.

I think this is the clincher.

If you're going to blow 20 penalties a game, you need to make them a little less influential.

The number of penalties / stoppages in the game is the major reason I have stopped watching League. I have only watched Roosters games for a few years now - just sick of all the referees blowing the whistle every few minutes & going to video ref for everything.
There's a reason why the young and idealistic become the old and cynical.
          It's called experience.

They just need to put the whistle in the pocket. For some reason the geniuses at nrl think that the faster the ruck and the faster the play the better the product. This is not true. The players cannot keep up with the speed standard expected of them. You can't make a 4 man tackle after playing football for 70odd minutes and be expected to untangle and spring up like a rocket. Attempting to speed the ruck up has created too many penalty stoppages.

Here I was thinking Kent had brought up the issue of how unbalanced the penalties are against us. Thats 20 minutes I'll never get back.

Greenberg says 'we all should respect the referees'

He's got to be kidding. Surely!

                Respect is earned, Mr Greenberg.

They haven't been "referees" for years, they are puppets having their strings pulled by League Central - that's why no one respects them anymore.

The puppets are more effective than the salary cap.
