It is one of those unfortunate point in our club's player development cycle, where we have so many young players that are reaching their peak in ability at the same time - which is why we have been so successful over the last couple of seasons in on field performances. This is made more difficult when coupled with the need to retain our established players over the next two seasons.

Our club and the staff responsible for recruitment and retention have to keep redesigning our succession planning as they become victims of their own successes in developing young players.

I am deeply disappointed that we are losing Roger, but I wish him well - he has served us well as a young player and I am thankful for that.

I can only take what he has said about his decision to return to New Zealand on face value and there was no way we can start offering players at this stage in his career the money the Warriors are offering which is nearly 15% of our Salary Cap.

This would leave an average of $195,000 for the other 24 players, with many of our retained players going into the 2016 well above this would mean the young emerging players in future years would be on very low money,

We want to continue to be a club that young players of talent want to play for and we have been very successful in keeping most of them.

It’s been a really tough week for the club, let’s hope Friday night gives us some joy.

Loyalty verses $$, RT$ went for the cash. They made him an offer he couldn't refuse! Pity, he will never win a comp via Nu Zeeland. Depending on his performances till the end of this season, will this cause team disharmony??

I love the honesty by POS here.

Those are pretty damning words and i actually agree with him. We helped both he and his family immensely and we couldn't have charted his career trajectory and development any better. And just when we're about to reap the rewards of all that hard work he runs away.

525 per year over 2 years was a very good offer. And at the end of it he would have been 24 and ready to make a million per year for the next 8 years. Is that really so bad? No wonder the club is filthy.
IMO the club CONTRIBUTED to who he is today. However, RTS made himself who he is today. If it was purely the coaching staff then they coulda kept me on after SG Ball and turned me into a player equal to RTS and we woulda had no problems. I was a skinny white boy who could run faster than any of the current players (no doubt.) However, I lacked something called skill and commitment. I had very good coaching and they would have loved it if I could hang onto the ball/tackle people properly. Alas, these skills never quite clicked.

Clubs don't magically create players. At 18 RTS was an IN DEMAND player. If we didn't take him on, somebody else woulda (possibly a rugby club in NZ) and he probably still woulda been successful.

Remember Moga? RTS and Moga were seen as having pretty well equal talent on debut. Moga had the same opportunities but is now up in QLD as a VERY ordinary player with a criminal conviction.

Tough one this because on one hand, the honesty on display from an influential member of the Roosters management team is refreshing for those outside the club but on the other hand perhaps such honesty may cause problems for those inside the club and in particular the players. Despite some on this forum telling others on this forum to get a grip of themselves, I too find myself gutted at RTS's switch to the NRL team from NZ. I would have found it much easier to accept him following SBW to the Chiefs / rugby.

Tend to agree and this was my reaction when the news came out. Start investing in the replacement straight away not at the end of the year especially for such a critical spot.

Get Lantrell to Wyong immediately and fast track him. There are other 18 yo's playing at this level. Must buy Jennings brother asap.

He chose to speak his mind, stating his opinion of what the club has done for Roger...
If Roger stands up for the team this season, all the best to him in the future...

The comments are divisive. Terrible leadership.

Buying a Jennings brother could also be key to keeping Jenko at the roosters.....

It's a new experience for us.

We do it to other clubs all the time.

I like his comments but they open us up to charges of being hypocrites.

It happens to every single club from every single club. Even a fanbase like St George that mocks our juniors has more than half their squad from elsewhere.

You can say what you wish about the club being hypocrits by making this comment but the club has spent a lot of time, money and planning in developing RTS. I don't consider RTS a Rooster anymore. I would not be unhappy if they replaced him or put him on the wing for rest of season.

If he had to go, I'm glad its to the Warriors. Imagine if he'd gone to Manly or the Dogs, Souffs or St merge?

To even imagine him carving us up on Anzac day next year makes me feel ill.

Better places to worship in Auckland, I guess?

Good luck to the snivelling little Hillsonger.

What a tremendous kick in the balls. You'd prefer to lose pretty much anyone else in the squad over him. Christ.

Don't get me wrong. I like the comments. I agree with the comments. I know we are forced to be a recruitment club. I have no problem with it. In fact, we develop players a lot better than clubs with massive junior bases.

I also think people who like to moan about our recruitment of juniors from elsewhere will latch on to this to patronise us and say we are hypocrites.

Andrew Voss has already had a crack at it on Twitter.

This whole juniors thing is a red herring anyway. It's a professional sport. As someone said yesterday, nobody complains about the lack of juniors at English Premier League clubs.

Agree, you blocked me on twitter yesterday FYI. I was a bit upset and irrational about RTS leaving. I truly regard him as a generational talent and someone I have watched very closely to reach this point. Its a massive kick in the balls to myself as a Rooster and an RTS lover to see this happen.
