TEAMMATES have urged the Roosters to sign Nate Myles for life, declaring the inspirational lock their new Craig Fitzgibbon.
In a beaten side, Myles was outstanding, bashing and barging his way to what would have been a man-of-the-match performance had the Roosters won.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal that the Sydney Roosters may be forced to release Myles from the final year of their contract as they face mounting salary cap pressure and cashed-up rival clubs. The Test forward is signed up until the end of next year but has been given permission to talk to rival clubs as the Roosters attempt to offload players to free up room under the cap.
After a typically bruising performance from Myles, Roosters forward Frank Paul Nu'uausala said the club needed to find the cash to keep the Queensland Origin player at the club for life.
"Nate is our leader in the pack," Nu'uausala said.
"He is like a Fitzy for us. We have to sign him for at least another four years because I don't want him to go. He was a big part of the reason why I re-signed here and I want to make sure he stays. He is just such a big part of this club."
Nursing a broken finger, Fullback Anthony Minichiello also pleaded with the Roosters to sign Myles to a long-term deal.
"He was outstanding again," Minichiello said. "His defence is just enormous and his work ethic is second to none.
"He is just huge in every game and he was no different today. He just led the way.
"I think he has another year but everyone loves playing with him so hopefully they can work something out."
Myles has already held talks with the Titans and has no shortage of suitors should the Roosters struggle to come up with the cash. He again showed his worth yesterday as the Roosters showed plenty of spirit and fight as they went down to the Dragons.
"I think there were some very good signs today," Minichiello said. "But their defence was just incredible.
"I think we might have been guilty of pushing the pass a couple of times when we should have just played the ball and waited for the next play.
"Our defence in the first half was very good and our forwards were whacking real hard. We had some opportunities there but we went for it instead of building pressure."
