After watching the first 6 rounds of the competition, I unlike many supporters think there has been a positive start to the season. Whilst we are only 3/6, I feel that we are in a better space then we were this time last year. We appear to be much fitter and our bench seems to be providing much more value than last season. Furthermore, our defence has been much better on the whole. I feel that the amount of points we have conceded in the last two weeks hasn't reflected our online defence - the majority of the sides in the competition would have conceded 30-40 points last night if they had to make over 400 tackles like we did.
Our attack has also been quite good and will only continue to grow. In games where we have had some quality ball, such as against the Cowboys, Raiders and even Souffs, points have been easy to come by. Even against the Sharks and Broncos, we crossed at pretty much every opportunity.
Even our error counts and penalties conceded haven't been too bad this season. Our completion rates average in the 70% - 80% bracket and we've only conceded 10 penalties or more twice this season, which we did a lot last year. Obviously not being able to close out games such as last week, the rabbits and broncos - where we were in clear positions to win the game - has been dissapointing. But that will come.
The storm will once again provide a tough test for us next week but those sort of games are good for our development. All in all I believe the signs are there that we are in for a good season, and much of the pessimism among our fan base is unwarranted.
