Ivan Cleary should be a career coach.

        He has no ego
        He is an excellent communicator
He played first grade for years
He has an amazing work ethic
        He controls his emotions
He let's players take credit when the team does well and takes personal flack when they are playing poorly

He is the only coach who reminds me of Bennett but 20 years younger

          Same here.,
I've lived in different areas of NSW and always supported my local team...Condo...Dapto...Port Kembla etc. The only other ARL team I've followed was the Steelers. Worked for them to build the club and travelled to games....also remained a Chook's fan.
If by some unthinkable travesty, Easts were finished I would eventually support whatever team my favourite players joined.

Yeh but his teams play like shit.

I agree though I like the way he handles himself. But I haven't seen great improvement from the Warriors over there. It's the same rubbish every year.

I don't want to get too controversial here. But we have trouble getting FPN, Mose and BJ to turn up each week let alone a whole team of Islanders it would be a fkn NIGHTMARE getting consistency out of them

Didn't our Premier League team win in 2004 with Cleary as coach?

                  didnt the warriors finish fourth?

I actually think he has over performed with the squad over there and a premiership is not far away

Definately the potential is there for a GF for Warriors.I think they would need to finish top 2 though to do it. Otherwise they may be forced to come and play in Australia 3 possibly 4 weeks running. That will make it extremely tough

The Warriors should of won a Premiership years ago, they have all the talent in the world.

As I wrote in another thread, and Freddy help me, in agreement with Trew, Cleary played for 10 years without scandal. He was never in origin or national contention. He was a simple, no nonsense player who has taken a rag-tag bunch of rejects, no-hopers and centrelink refugees with the Warriors and formed them into a better than 50/50 win/loss team.

Brian Smith is this decade's Graham Murray, who brought the team close but couldn't get them to pop. Cleary could be the new Ricky Stuart (MINUS the psychopathic ego and narcissistic personality disorder) and Carney could be our new Freddy.

Yeah were flat as tacks when they ran into a rampant Penrith side in 03 In what I think was their 3rd fnals match on the rd. Its gets difficult flying back and forth week in week out

Smith was hired to get us up the ladder from the very bottom, where we sat.

Also hired to implement the "New Attitude-New Beginning" policy...as our off-field culture/reputation was in the gutter, also at the very bottom.

Bennet is the best coach, he's gone to Newcastle.
Gus Gould has retired from coaching.

T Carney and his manager are reportedly [2GB] meeting with Noyce today to work out a plan for how the 'indefinitely-suspended' T Carney goes forward from here successfully.

Hadley said he'll believe it when he sees it [Carney's actions for a better/any future in the NRL].

Hopefully Carney's not still living by himself, or going even one place by himself.

Myles said on a news grab that the team is struggling without T Carney as he can score points...and he hopes he makes it back.

                            .

The Warriors nearly won the 2002 Grand Final.

Had Luke Phillips not put his body on the line and batted that ball out ... and Freddy not kicked that 40/20, then risen from 'dreamland', his head swathed in bandages, and urged the players forward, we might not have won.

Oh, and Morley had not smashed Villasanti in a legal tackle shortly after he flattened Freddy.

Cleary is a good bloke and was a good solid player, I don't rate him as a coach though. The Warriors have played the same predictable way under Cleary, there hasn't been much improvement.

They have 1000's of the best kids on their door step. Every NRL team has scouts who try to pick the best from NZ but they have first crack at them.

Someone like SKD couldn't get a look in over there.

If they ever got their act together they would be in the top 4 every year.
