This could well mean we win a premiership if it results in at least some change in officiating of our games. And I think it will result in some changes in how our games are refereed.
On the other hand we had no hope...zilch..if things stay as they are. We were that much better in 2013 and could overcome ridiculous hurdles. We aren't that good this year.
But we are still probably the best team if fairer officiating occurs.
We will have to agree to disagree I think on this one.
Watch what happens.
Think of it from an outsiders view.
In the 2.5 seasons we are talking, well Rothwitt is, we have won a comp and been MPs twice and are faves this year.
And now we have The White Whale Rothwitt, that beacon of respect in the RL community, leading the charge against the evil NRL Imperial Forces.
From an outsiders view, just imagine for a moment for me please you are an opposition fan, what do we have to whinge about???
We are the envy of most clubs. We are already viewed as the NRL darlings, over the cap, rorters etcetcetc.
Now we are whinging about penalties in one of our most successful eras. 6 GFs in 15 seasons.
Again I agree with the sentiments here, its just if im objective and I look at it from an outsiders view well that's what the vast majority will say.
One thing I don't agree with is dealing with Rothwitt. Sorry but hes an a grade carnt and hes universally hated and holds zero respect and this sort of character will not help ANY cause cos from the moment he pens a headline most will ridicule his view.
A rational piece from a Gus or Sterlo would be helpful and positive to the cause IMO.
And in all honesty has anyone asked if The Club itself wants or desires this sorta heat???
Cheap sensational headlines don't stick. I bet zero changes.
The FlogPen .
You know it makes sense.

Backwards when has anyone of us cared what an outsider thinks?
When Toovey or Dessie or Bellyache or Bennett Sticky or any other coach have a whinge about how they are being treated do we care? But it seems a bit of noise seems to stick a rocket up the refs arrses when it happens. And you know they will time it towards the end of the season leading up to the semis. I think even Robbo had a crack a couple of years back a couple weeks out from semis.
We have been treated unfairly for years. It has gotten to the stage this year where it's blatantly obvious even to other supporters.
The club has worked hard to get the team we have and there is a window that lasts a few years before the cap takes over and we lose players and have to rebuild our stock. We are in that window now and are entitled to be given a fair crack at winning the comp as many times as we can. Games being dictated by refereeing decision to give or not give penalties to make games closer or ensuring that a team has minimal chance of winning is match fixing whether that be for gambling reasons or what is best for the business is irrelevant.
So whether it is Buzz or Gus who gives a flying. It is out there now and other commentators are now talking about it. It will be a topic that the NRL and Archer can't avoid.

Here is what I find staggering - the Rabbitohs didn't concede under 5 penalties once last year.
NOT EVEN ONCE IN 27 GAMES.
And just last night we have them only receiving two and struggling immensely. Welcome to our world you merkins. Only in our world you'll struggle to even make the top 8, especially with that overrated thug Inglis on one of his regular disappearing acts.
Could it be that, now they've won the comp, they are being refereed fairly again? The penalties they got last year were unprecedented. And the merkins can't thrive without that leg up.

All I am saying is Rothwitt is not the voice we want for anything to do with our club.
He is hated, more than we are lol, and people are sick to death of his agenda driven garbage.
That is how this will be remembered, another Rothwitt agenda against The NRL.
I understand how you all feel. I agree 100% the stats are a disgrace. I feel the pain too my friend.
IMO this will be yesterdays news by the weekend or when the next headline grabbing piece appears in The Daily Tellucrapp.
If the point of making a noise is to get others to listen, like The NRL and The officials, this method will not work.
As I said earlier if some respected RL people, like Gus or Sterlo, made some noise I would then change my mind cos people in power actually listen when people like that speak.
But Rothwitt and Co will just make everyone LOL.
Only my opinion. Good luck with the campaign.

I posted this stat a while ago and it shows how different the number of penalties that the 1st and 2nd teams received during the year despite playing similar teams in 27 games. That's a differential of over 60%. The other interesting stat I found that penalties overall decreased from from 2013 to 2104 by about 1% but Souths received over 30% more (from 167 to 219). We received 16% less (from 162 to 135).

We'll just have to and see.whether or not it makes a difference. I'm backing we get a few 2nd half penalties this week.
The relevance IMO is that the vast majority treat whatever Rothwitt writes as agenda driven bullshit.
Have you read some of the comments and heard a lot of the media since the article???
The vast majority, excluding Us the converted, either miss the point (go on about our discipline) or just say suck shit.
But as ive said since the start good on those who have got the stats together and are making an effort to get them seen.
Its just my opinion that nothing will change. I base that on the reasons I believe are behind the reaming we cop. SL.
Hopefully you are correct Kurt, I sincerely hope that is the case.
Go Easts.

This is what I wrote in the comments section to that article.
"Apart from WWE wrestling referees, Rugby League Referees are always in the spotlight and surrounded by controversy. There calls and decisions play a major role in who wins and who doesn’t. The punishment for a team that is penalised is the same regardless of how minor or severe the infringement (Not including Send offs). Imagine your team is attacking the opposition line (say 25 meters out from there try line) and its the second tackle. Then during a set play the attacker accidentally runs behind his own player and gives away a penalty because of the obstruction/shepherd rule
Now comes the punishment from the penalty which is as follows
Loss of remaining 4 tackles and a handover of possession
Opposition kicker kicks ball 50 meters downfield and finds touch.
Opposition are now given the ball 25 meters out from your line with 6 new tackles to attack.
In this case maybe just a turnover of possession is required.
For minor infringements the punishment from the penalties is too severe.
When a Penalty is given in Rugby League, it appears to influence the result of the match more than in any other sport.
A complete overhaul of the Rugby League penalty system is needed
Foul play should still result in tougher punishments and the Sin Bin should have a complete overhaul too.
Maybe it should be used when players are put on report for example.
To lose to a better team is easier to swallow than to lose to a team because of the referee influencing the result".

Another member referred to the referees as the 'game managers'
This is the perfect name for the modern day ref.
