Yeah, I'm with ya on that one. It started with a penalty for an accidental finger in the eye - the first one I've seen in 40 odd years - and continued all through the game. The leeway that souths were allowed on the ground was unbelievable. Ceccin actually penalised George Burgess once, when he'd been holding the St george bloke down for about 30 seconds and Burgess actually looked at him as if to say 'you can't do that'.....

St George tackle souths player, 2 seconds later - 'MOOOOOVE MOOOVE'

souths tackle St George player, 30 seconds of wrestling, then 'move. Please?'.

Souths are still very much in this comp if that shit continues.

And that overrated thug Inglis has carte blanche to do as he pleases and receive a penalty upon request.

The other thing Souffs are coached to do, and are very well drilled at, is to submit in tackles so that they land first on their knees. They are not actually attempting to break through the tackles - that would involve them trying to maintain an upright posture. Every single time they do this the referees should really call "surrender" and give the defence all the time they want to get off.

Instead, having landed on their knees, they then try (usually successfully) to take both markers out of play by regaining their feet and moving off to the side of, and in front of, the spot where they should play the ball.

In the event that the marker is quick enough to adjust to these moves off the mark and actually get in front of the souffs player, they then make contact with the marker and take a dive to the ground. Almost always the referees will reward this with a penalty, 50 metres and another set of 6.

It really is a complete farce. With Reynolds super accurate short kicking game and all the free field position they are gifted for the preposterous tactics described above, they are going to be in the mix again. What a pity they don't actually feel a need to play a genuine, welfare payment free brand of actual rugby league. Merge played the better footy last night but lost the cash.

I actually know the guy who is coaching Souths this and a few other techniques to slow the play the ball down when they are defending However when I put it this way to him he said it is not trying to slow the play the ball down but tryin g to get our defensive line set Which I replied this amounts to the same thing The guy is a Brazilian and a black belt in ju jitsu My Duaghter does classes where he works

I think Player 1 is describing what they do in attack to milk penalties.

Good stats TJ. I'll give you one to look up that might be even more staggering.
Get the stats on penalties received between 1-4 in a game.
I know in 27 games last year we had it 10 times and Souths 0.

My boss is a Dragons fan and he calls them the reffitohs! Honestly, all those old timers saying that when Souths are going well, rugby league is going well, need to take a good hard look at themselves. That welfare premiership win last year did nothing but polarise and alienate fans of all the remaining clubs as they can now see how their own teams are being treated, not just us, when its their turn to play them. I've never been so friendly with Canterbury fans in all my life !

I have found another stat that debunks the whole "Roosters give away penalties on purpose defending their own line so they can reset their defence" myth.
This year in 9 games we have given away 65 penalties.
41 of those penalties were in the Opposition Half
24 in our own half, 8 of which were against the Cowboys in Rd 1!
So that leaves 16 penalties in the last 8 games given away in our own half. An average of 2 per game, or 1 per half.
Broken down further by quarter we have only given away 13 penalties within 25 metres of our try line. 1.4 per game.
27 penalties against within 25 meters of the Oppositions tryline.
So 42% of the penalties we give away are piggybacks out of the oppositions defending quarter.
Rd Opp Opposition Own Grand Total
                        1 Cowboys 2 8 10
                        2 Rabbitohs 3 1 4
                        3 Panthers 7 1 8
                        4 Raiders 6 1 7
                        5 Sharks 5 1 6
                        6 Broncos 3 6 9
                        7 Storm 5 4 9
                        8 Dragons 5 2 7
                        9 Tigers 5 5

Let's not forget that the winning try came off that bullshit caught in goal call for Keary (when he dropped it) followed straight up by a penalty to get them out of their end (as usual).

Saints deserved to win that game.
