Back by Round 15 according to Rothfield:
BLAKE Ferguson’s NRL comeback has been fast-tracked by three games, thanks to a Philadelphia-based miracle worker. Ferguson has spent the past two weeks under the care of Bill Knowles, a man regarded as one of the world’s leading injury recovery experts.
The Roosters were originally hoping Ferguson would return in round 18 against the Panthers.
Now they are looking at round 15’s Anzac Day rematch with St George Illawarra. Ferguson will return home from the US on Monday to resume training at the Roosters.
On Friday, we spoke to Adam Bentley, the club’s physiotherapist who accompanied Ferguson on the trip.
“We’ve have a really full-on schedule without any hiccups,” Bentley said.
“The facilities have been outstanding. Absolutely world-class. That’s how they attract athletes like Tiger Woods, EPL players and NFL stars.
“Bill’s developed his own conditioning methods that get athletes going again. He uses concepts we haven’t thought of.
“It’s been a huge learning experience. When we came over here, Blake was a bit ginger on the ankle.
“We’re going to be walking off the plane back in Sydney with him moving really well. He’s made big progress so it’s been really worthwhile.
“We’ll now get him back into a team environment then hopefully to the next level.”
The success of Ferguson’s treatment will no doubt lead to other NRL clubs considering a similar path for their injured players.
The trip cost the Roosters more than $20,000 and showed just how far they have come in sports science.
They have no doubt the money will be worth it if Ferguson returns three games earlier than expected.
