As far as favourites go, Nick would had to sign off on Freddy being replaced by B Smith in the first place. So the "he plays his favourites" line is BS. If you hand the joint 100% over to the coach then the club is exposed - remember Fulton's return to Manly, when Noel Cleal, K Boustead, I Schubert, I Barkley, etc all followed? Or the coach ups and goes of their own accord - a la Gus and Anderson. Like in corporations, the board and the chairman usally provide the continuity, and to do that effectively they have to do something. In this the salary cap era, player rostering and retention is alot to do with value for money. Myles is on good coin - if what he is on is reported is near correct, is he really worth 3 times D Conn? Saints lost J Smith, N Costigan and J Saffy and are l[paying like a better team than last year. Conversley, the Roosters are over stocked on forwards and under stocked on three quarters. Thats it. Ryan Williamson was our great white hope but he upped and left and hasn't gone on to be a star somewhere else either. Keeping Braith's experience covers us in the halves - and considering T Carney is not the most reliable proposition, it was the right thing to do. Friend is not a great ball player, but gives all, tackles his heart out, and is on low wages. Good value for money. Mini gives all but is not a ball player either, so the ball playing has to come from the halves, and they can only do that when the forwards are going forward. We made a great run to the semis playing an expansive game with 3 halves, but thats not suited to wet weather footy as well as the forwards are not getting in there and going forward. Myles makes some great tackles, but he runs it up taking baby steps. for the last 3 seasons, the roosters are one of the highest penalised sides and that has to be fixed. Compare that to the dragons. Forwards tend to be the highest offenders, because they make the most tackles. The roosters worse offenders are Ryles, Myles and JWH. And snaring SBW is such a long shot it is a pipedream. I think its a smokescreen. Sam Tomkins looks a great option and preferably done on the quiet.

Former Test prop Jason Ryles, veteran hooker Mark Riddell, centre Phil Graham and Aidan Guerra are unlikely to be at the club next season. Anthony Watts' contract is certain to be terminated as well.

They are either underperforming, retiring or sacked. Every club has a few players that they will get rid of at the end of the year. Do you honestly believe the line that it is because of salary cap pressure. Another load of bullsh!t written in your bullsh!t paper.

As for Uncle Nick. I agree that he should keep out of the player retention side of things but if you doubt what he has done for the club, here is something The Doctor wrote on The Wall.

Easts in the immediate era before Nick:

No grand finals from 1981 to 1994 and only one finals appearance in 15 years, dwindling band of supporters, the club in financial ruin, lowest sponsorship and membership in the comp, Easts Leagues being sold off chunk by chunk by the previous admin and financially imperilled...

Easts in the Nick era:

Finals appearances in 96, 97, 98, 99, 2000, 01, 02, 03, 04, 08, 10... Grand Finals in 2000, 02, 03, 04, 10... 10,000 members... Easts Group expanded out to encompass five clubs and $100M assets... one of the most lucrative clubs in terms of sponsorship...

With teams assembled under the Politis business model that have made all those finals appearances and appeared in more grand finals than any team except Super League Brisbane and Super League Melbourne since he took over the club....
