It amazes me how people revere him.
Now I read that Roosters are bursting at the seam with salary cap issues. If true, what is going on here - look at the roster!!!!
The Roosters have, and always will, pay overs for players.
Politis, like anthropogeneic climate change, is a myth.
Sack him.

This is why The Doctor is an influential supporter.
It is also why we need balance to an argument or point of view.
When Nick took full control he did what Nathan Tinkler is doing now at Newcastle.
He hired the best in the business as coach. Not because of astute judgement, simply because he could afford it.
Now the next 5 years reaped benefit even though we didnt win a comp because Gould laid the foundations for years to come.
The first coach to not see out his contract was Graham Murray.
The second coach not to see out his contract was Ricky Stuart.
The third coach not to see out his contract was Chris Anderson
The final coaching mistake and in my opinion was the worst appointment was Brad Fittler.
By hiring a coach and sacking them prematurely is one thing. To sack four in a row is another. It is reactive, it is embarassing. Most importantly it leaves the club in a situation where there is a lack of a quality coach on offer.
Hence, we have our current situation.
Ask around if you know people in footy and they will tell you that Brian Smith was a good fit for us. To sign the guy for four years when he has never won a comp is ludicrous. That decision was enough for me . I wrote it before he even arrived at the club and I said it would end in tears yet again.
Why???
Because Smith is all about himself and not the players.
The polar opposite of what the players perceive Wayne Bennett to be. We know what success Bennett has had in comparison to Brian, yet both have been in the game for the same period of time.
If Smith is a user we should have used him.
Lets get back to the statistics that The Doctor used.
Since the 2002 GF win, we have made 3 grand finals and lost all three.
We have won a wooden spoon.
We are on the way to another..
We have been constantly in the papers for players misbehaving and drinking more than any other club that I can recall. Do not forget also what has been glossed over by pulling in favours.
As has been stated the major beef us long term supporters have with Nick is his involvement with recruitment.
Other clubs that have won more comps than us have had to let senior players go under the salary cap to plan for the future. Instead we offer retirement packages. As stated, Luke Ricketson, Craig Fitzgibbon, Mini etc all stayed too long.
The only reason I can see for this is Nick wanting to reward these guys for a premiership that was won in 2002.
I dont see FPN, JWH getting looked after for running second. although supporters like the doctor(who I totally respect) seem to think running second is OK.
We are stuck with Smith for another 2 years after this year.
We will remain competitive, he knows too much about footy and hasnt survived like a cockroach without reason.
The point of this thread is my frustration.
Frustration with Nick.
I actually dont really want him sacked.
I want him to do what he does well. Make money. Sign coaches wisely, take a chance and show some foresight.
Ivan Cleary will be a succeessful coach, I know it in my bones. I see it the way he works and I like it. His assistant has dealt with polynesians for years and knows how to get the best out of them.
They would make a formidable team at the chooks.
A place that Ivan calls home.barbarian ......arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!

I really don't like the constatnt slagging of Smith! I really think he was handed 4 years for a reason, and he should be given the 4 years, as the 4 years gives him more than enough time to do what he needs to do.
In saying that, I think that was a really well thought out post from you Trew. All points made are valid points, and it has given me a diffrent outlook on where you are coming from. Top post.

I too cringed when it was revealed Smith was offered a 4yr deal. Assuming there are no terms in his contract in favour of our club,
if he sees out his term he's laughing. If he gets the boot after 2012 he laughs harder because he's guaranteed his 2013 money.
A couple of years ago when Warriors mngt got wind of the Roosters chasing hard for Ivan's services they reacted swiftly and extended
his deal. Let's hope he & his family decide to return home soonish because i too reckon Ivan is a cool, level headed & intelligent coach.
Furthermore, the Polynesians seem to respond positively to his style of coaching and our club has certainly got its fair share in 1st's
as well as the lower grades.

I am happy with Smithy.
We got a lot of dodgy calls in that Grand Final and could have won it.
