  • Rooster Ratings????

I would like to hear everyones thoughts on how they thought the Roosters players went last night, i do not watch Origin but i have heard reports and seen highlights that suggested jennings was exceptional, Cordner was great in his limited time on the the field, Pearce played well and Guerra non existant.

what do you guys with your un-biased opinions think?

    Jennings was awesome.

    Cordner was decent.

Pearce was good in the first half, shit in the second.

Guerra was solid and took some big runs at the back end of the game.

After Pearce's performance last night, i'm a lot more comfortable with a mooted Hastings/Pearce halves combo in 2016 should BBQ move on.

Guerra shaved. Instead of looking like Che Guevara, he now looks like Justin Beiber

Speaking of which, glad to see that the regular season ratings made it to Round 7. While it was a big improvement on our efforts in 2014 (0 rounds), it fell well short of our best, achieved in 2013 (Round 13).

Can someone competent please take over this forum? Chris was here for a few weeks but we probably wont see him again until 2018.

I would gladly take over. However, I don't think the forum is for sale.

IMO Chris is highly competent BUT... he's chosen a rubbish host, is hoping that giant Google ads will pay for the ongoing costs and has most likely found himself a full-time job + a lady who is more attractive to him than all of us Roosters tragics. And hey... good on him!

I've moved out of the IT profession but was previously a web and software developer. IMO if I took over I could:
              - Pay for a better host and delete the ads.
              - Pay for a second server so that we have a development server (for my fiddling) and a production server (for the public) this would minimise weird errors and issues when the site's under development.
              - Pay for a third 'backup' server. If the main one gets hacked then I can wipe it and go back to the backup. This would be an exact copy of the latest 'production' server, with historic archives.
              - Implement a simpler, less high-tech theme with a proper mobile theme (i.e. one that looks and feels like an app on ALL phones and tablets)
              - Appoint a couple of mods
              - Visit the forum at least a few times a week and communicate whenever shyte goes down.

Guess I could e-mail Mr Hamilton and see what he says. If he's agreeable, IMO I'd take more of a 'technical lead' role (rather than taking over as a 'forum boss'), I'd give some more respected members the ability to moderate and Chris would be very welcome. It wouldn't be a 'take-over' so much as a new guy being in charge of the IT side of things.

              Good idea?

Anything that gets rid of the ads and give us better access on our smart phones is welcome.

Only Chris can answer that one really. IMO there's the hosting costs and then there's the advertising costs.

                              Hosting:
                              - You can get a domain name for roughly $10 a year... they're not all that expensive.
                              - Hosting... really depends. For at max 50 posts a week one might argue that you could even host it at home. But commercially, maybe $100 a year?

                              Advertising:
Haven't checked for ages but promoting yourself in Google ads can be effing expensive. I believe that Chris is into this in a big way (has been professionally) so I mean... he could spend thousands making this the top site in Google ads whenever somebody types 'sydney roosters'. He might not. I don't know what he spends.

I'm no good at advertising sites. One post says 'well why not do it yourself and people will come'. TBH I could spend months coding up an awesome site and nobody would ever find it.

If people want proof that I can do it then I can setup a sample tonight on one of my computers at home. For $0 I can install a database package and some lightweight forum software on one of my Raspberry Pis (mini computers) and hook it up to a free domain. Just gotta pick some lightweight software with a nice mobile theme... not hard!

Sure, Chris uses vBulletin and you'd have to then merge the accounts + posts (maybe easy, maybe hard... depends).

But yeah the crux... $100 a year I reckon I could have a proper domain name and hosting that's more reliable than this host has been.
