Kieran Foran to walk away from Parramatta Eels contract

No doubt the eels are a basket case but they had no option but to try to change it. The clause about leaving if the coach is sacked is ok. Lots of players have that. But the other one is ridiculous. Can walk away at anytime with a 1mill dollar payout. How that was allowed is just criminal. And of course you now have the eels board and ex CEO all pointing fingers at each other.

I thought it interesting that Paul Kent mentioned the reason they also lowered the contract value from 4.8 mill to 4.2 mill is because of the way the eels have structured the contracts third party payments. He mentioned that these must be completely separate from the club, which the eels did not do. The NRL have advised the eels of this so they reduced it to 4.2mill without telling Foran.
The whole thing is a debacle. I think if he goes anywhere it is back to Manly. As Kent said last night, they can offer him a similar type deal to DCE with most of it back ended after 2017 when they have most contracts off their books. They will have a great halves pairing but I can't imagine them having much else around it.

No court in the land would enforce that $1m clause. It's an illegal penalty.

Not to mention the fact that the whole contract is illegal because Parra said they would get third party agreements for him.

Parra are an embarassing basked case but as far as I am concerned, despite the media backing him, Foran has not covered himself with glory either.

Whilst on Kent, the guy has no idea. They still have to fill those spots and if they are paying $2.5m for two players there isn't a lot left for the rest. To hold Melbourne us as proof it can work is idiotic. They get the big three for that amount (all of which are better than the two at Manly) and they have Bellamy.

How the hell are the Parrmatta Eels as bad as they are in terms of their board and administration? From all reports it is and has been a complete amateur wankfest for many years. It is a damn shame because a strong Parramatta club and first grade side is important for the sport as a whole in my opinion.

I reckon the Eels have the biggest fan base in Sydney.

When they're going well they could fill ANZ for a GF on their own.

It's also a club I hold no ill feeling toward, unlike scab entities like Souffs, Dragons or Broncos.

Unfortunately I can't see any light at the end of the tunnel for them. Their 1, 6 & 7 are a shambles and they're spending exorbitant amounts on 30+ year old forwards with long term deals. The 4 year 600k per year deal handed to an already over the hill Watmough was criminal and will be an anchor around the clubs neck for its entire duration.

And now the Foran fiasco. What unrivalled stupidity for a potentially great club.

And to agree he can leave if the coach goes is a disaster waiting to happen for them.

In other news, now Hoppa is complaining that his third party agreements have not come good and they took a car off Nathan Peats because it was counted under the cap. Funnily Peats just tweeted that he was tired from having to walk home 12km from training.

What a basket case the place is. But sadly I think it is all caused from within - probably from people loyal to Fitzgerald.
