  • The club needs to start afresh

They need to get rid of all the deadwood (Mini, Anasta, Pearce, Ryles, Riddell etc)
The bad boys (Carney, Myles, Friend etc)
The players I would keep in 1st grade would be Perret, SKD, Linnet, Masoe, Kennedy, Symonds(c), Leilua, FPN, Conn, Tasi, Aubusson, JWH, Arona, Graham, and fill the rest with the best of the 20's and reserves.
Appoint a coach with an Eastern Suburbs background someone like Cleary.
Get rid of Newtown and reinstate our reserve grade side
Go back to being called Eastern Suburbs
Pour More money into junior development. The club could provide Free jerseys, Shorts and socks. Make an effort to increase the number of junior clubs we have.
It will be long term pain for long term gain.
The club needs a different structure to it's thinking, A complete overhaul. It sounds far fetched but to me something drastically needs to be done.
The club needs to introduce a no dickhead policy and ANY future signing would be instantly dismissed if they bring the club into disrepute. There is no reason why our club can't be the juggernaught that the Broncos are.
I feel we as a club has lost our mojo. I know we made the GF last year but I believe we had a lot of luck. This year we've been shown up in a big way.

Mate I agree that the two junior clubs is hurting us.
U20 cannot succeed under this structure according to the coach of u20s 3 years ago, one Adrian Lam.

They didn't listen to him. They blamed him. We are still crap and the next coach in line was punted last year.
    barbarian ......arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!

      That will never happen.

      Pearce is not deadweight.

We will never be called Eastern Suburbs again (marketing would take a massive hit).

Pearce is adequate but to be honest he is nothing more than an average First Grade player but would be on the sort of money reserved for a star player.

          Coggie,
the develpment change is happening. The guys running it now are great and are really focused on building our juniors numbers.
They also provide the jerseys, shorts and socks for the 4 clubs, just don't get me started on ISC though.

The only differences is Friend would be one of the first I would keep.
I would serious think about the big islander boys especially FPN, I have seen enough that makes me question their attitude and respect.
The Internet is a place for posting silly things
Try and be serious and you will look stupid

And if Perret, SKD, Linnet, Masoe, Kennedy, Symonds(c), Leilua, FPN, Conn, Tasi, Aubusson, JWH, all made a mistake together?

I can think of a big reason. One team has the biggest junior nursery of all teams. The other has the smallest.

I agree that the structure of our reserve teams is no good, however with a limited junior base, that is to be expected.

I think pearce way down on form, and needs a reality check. But to think he is deadwood is way off the mark. Have a look at the halfs going around, and apart from a couple, the standard just isn't there. I would take him over most going around.

In the space of a few weeks, we would have no board, cairman, coach and team. Now thats clearing the dead wood!

If we did what you are suggesting we'd fold. There would be nothing left for people to support, only us diehards would be left. The club would fold and we'd be supporting Newtown.

Of course we'd have a club to support.

Sounds nice on paper, but just not how professional sport works in 2011.

I don't think Pearce is a dead weight. Half back is a difficult position made even more difficult if there are issues in other areas of the team. Jesus, the poor guy hasn't had a decent 5/8 next to him all year. Carney wasn't right (either still injured or had mental issue) when he played this season and Anasta just doesn't cut the mustard as a 5/8.

Going on what I saw yesterday the current U20s coach won't last long either.

RC that it is one of your greatest posts in ten years of me being a part of these forums.

I agree whole heartedly with you.

I truly believe that is possible.

Thanks Vasco. The club has to change things. We haven't been a powerhouse since Freddy retired and that is unacceptable.
