It certainly reeks like a Politis clearing of the deck chairs. I mean no offence with the following comment but you have to wonder how much his ego was hurt after losing RTS. Signing Hayne would be a huge power statement.

Not sure I can quite get caught up in any Hayne hype, if we could afford Hayne we would have been able to afford RTS and would have re-signed him given he's 22 and only getting better. Unless we decided to release/not re-sign Maloney, Toops, Moa etc. after RTS' decision of course.

I cant blame Sam Moa for wanting to capitalise on his earning potential for the last few years of his career. I definitely think he wasn't up to his 2013 standards last year, but he has been a great player for the club over the 2 and half seasons.
I cant begrudge him for wanting to set himself up.
That leaves us with the question that surely we have major cap space with Martin Kennedy(?), James Maloney, RTS, Sam Moa and possibly Daniel Tupou in 2016,2017 to make a play at another free agent.
The NRL Cap is also gradually increasing every season, I thought at the bare mininum we'd be able to keep one of RTS and JM with our off contract players.
