GOLD Coast's $1 million-plus offer to secure Queensland Origin star Nate Myles until the end of 2015 could be thwarted by the club's salary cap position for next season.
The race for Nate Myles' signature has taken a dramatic twist, with his management to meet with two rival Sydney clubs this week as the Roosters forward continues to test his value on the open market.
Off-contract at the end of next season, Myles has been given permission to negotiate with rival clubs and it was widely speculated last week the Titans had the Maroons enforcer under wraps.
The Coast initially expressed interest in tabling a three-year deal for Myles starting from 2013. But the club is now exploring the possibility of squeezing Myles under its salary cap for 2012, a scenario that could play a key role in whether the former Test representative decides to join the Titans.
Despite rumours his arrival at the Titans was a done deal, Myles' manager Gavin Orr said the forward had yet to agree to terms with the club.
The Titans are sure to come under salary cap pressure after recently signing Cronulla prop Luke Douglas and 20-year-old Bulldogs sensation Jamal Idris, although the rumoured departure of Anthony Laffranchi to England could free up room to secure Myles.
"The Titans have offered a deal and we haven't accepted it as yet," Orr said.
"We have some meetings with a couple of clubs who are also interested and by the end of the week we should have an idea of where we are.
"At the moment, Nate hasn't accepted anything.
"The original discussions have been for 2013, 2014 and 2015 seasons.
"The Titans are possibly interested for 2012 but after agreeing to terms with Douglas, it might make it difficult.
"Nate might have to play next season at the Roosters."
The Titans' offer is believed to be around $300,000 a season, which would be inferior to the $400,000 annually Myles currently earns at the Roosters.
