  • Some good news and some bad.

THE Sydney Roosters are under massive salary cap pressure and will look to off-load at least six players for next season, including Test forward Nate Myles.

The Daily Telegraph has been told Myles will be given permission to leave Bondi with a year still to run on his contract if he can secure a deal with Gold Coast Titans or Newcastle.

Myles met with Newcastle's Tinkler Group representatives yesterday.

Roosters officials fear the club could edge over the salary cap unless several players who are coming off contract are cut.

Former Test prop Jason Ryles, veteran hooker Mark Riddell, centre Phil Graham and Aidan Guerra are unlikely to be at the club next season. Anthony Watts' contract is certain to be terminated as well.

Fullback Anthony Minichiello has another year to run on his deal but the club would allow him to leave early if he secures a deal in England.Skipper Braith Anasta has agreed to a new deal but still not signed the contract. The Roosters will honour the deal.

The retention of some key young players and upgraded deals for others have the Roosters bursting at the seams in regards to their salary cap. Some of those players include Mitchell Pearce, Todd Carney, Mose Masoe and Martin Kennedy.

Rising star Tom Symonds also re-signed this week.

"Something has to give," a source close to the Roosters said. "The club just can't keep them all. Some guys have gone from second-tier contracts to some real decent money."The Roosters are under pressure and aware how tight their salary cap situation is."

There were suggestions this week that the money saved might enable club officials to have a real dash at All Black and former Canterbury Bulldogs star Sonny Bill Williams.

Roosters officials are not confident of signing Williams but are hopeful.

The two parties have made contact but Williams remains contracted to Canterbury, the club he walked out on three years ago.

The Daily Telegraph understands Canterbury would seek compensation of up to $1 million to release Williams from his contract, which expires at the end of next season."Sonny Bill Williams cannot play for another club until the 2013 season," Bulldogs chief executive Todd Greenberg said.

Asked if he would consider a release for compensation, he said: "We would be happy to discuss commercial terms with any club interested in signing him earlier."

Pressed on whether his club would accept a player exchange from a club for Williams, Greenberg said: "No. It would be a commercial deal."

I find it extroadinary that we are telling Myles to find another club while still under contract yet we went and extended Anasta's deal and will "honour" it

Crazy decision by Nick the Greek. Sentiment could the better of his judgment

I cant see how they can be under cap pressure. Surely there are teams in a worse position than us in that regard. More than likely they are off loading as much dead wood as possible to buy new players. I dont consider Myles dead wood but despite what some on here say it sounds to me like he no longer wants to play for the Club and management are happy to offload his 400K contract for a player who does not want to be here. As for Mini, lets hope he realises he is no longer good enough to play at this level and falls on his sword. The game has changed mini. A fullback needs to be a playmaker, fast, and have a footy brain these days, not just 'run straight at em' (what's a side step) 'smash em up derby'. The game has passed him but I am not sure he realises it.

So we're releasing some fringe players because we have salary cap problems but we're still hopeful of signing SBW for massive money. Top article.

Yeah grain of salt dude. But honestly I don't care if were' using "cap pressure" as an excuse to off load the dead wood as long as we off load it.

Didnt Phil the Dill Rothfield have an axclusive that Sandow rejected Parra to sign with Souffs on monday????

Those players are being released because they are past their use by date not salary cap restraints.

It is this morons way to get people bashing the Roosters again. This time salary cap cheats

We need a fullback and centre desperately.

                      It's simple really.

                      Stand up Mr O'Sullivan.

Didnt FPN say that the main reason he signed with the Roosters is because of Myles and that he hopes he doesnt leave?
Does that mean if Myles goes we can release FPN also?

apart from Myles its hardly a suprise the club is trying to rid itself of underperforming senior players the likes of Graham,Riddell,Guerra,Ryles were never going to be kept next year, i'm sure the powers that be are now regreting their decision to give extensions to the likes of Mini/Anasta/FPN before the season started and maybe they are doing everything in their power to push them out the door now if anyone will take them.

but for one minute don't be fooled by the salary cap presure excuse, no doubt behind the scenes the club would have a hit list that they will attempt to sign if they can rid themselves of the majority of the mentioned players.
