  • Daniel Mortimer

It looks like his time on the GC will come to an end shortly.

    http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-...rom=public_rss

He might getting a starting half (or hooker) role at clubs like Newcastle but I doubt many other clubs would take him on as a starting proposition. I think he is a solid back-up for a number of positions, he proved that whilst he was with us. Perhaps he understands that himself now too.

Anyway, with Mcllwrick only on a one year contract (expiring at the end of this year) and Hastings supposedly taking over from Maloney next year, I think Mortimer warrants some consideration for a return.

Would rather blood a young gun with a future than Mort's. He was good for us but he's just not a starting first grader

Putting aside my manboylove for Dan, he's sadly missing that spark that would take him to the level of elite league players.

Sadly more like his father than his uncle. A good footballer but nobody asked Peter Tunks to set up a try, they asked Turvy.

What a turnaround. I thought he was better than Pearce? I thought he was going to prove he was better than Pearce when he got an opportunity at the Gold Coast?

I did not mention Mitchell's name in that comment for a specific reason. And it wasn't because of that.

I think Morts is quality... he's fit and has a footy brain. I reckon he just needs a team that 'needs' him and backs him.

IMO slot him into Souffs for keary and they wouldn't miss Keary. Keary is tiny but unlike Morts he rolls around on the ground trying to milk a penalty every time a big guy knocks him over. He's like a mini version of Bill Shorten who's very lucky he has so many big forward backing him up.

He's probably better than 1/2 the first grade halves in the comp. Chad Townsend, Jamie Soward, Luke Keary, Chris Sandow...etc don't have equal fitness and footy brains IMO. Just luck... team has a gap, you fill it, they choose to spend all their $$$ on forwards and he'd be in IMO.

Having a famous footballing surname does not guarantee success as a footballer.

I don't think Morts will play for peanuts.

Oh sure... with any sport. At school Inplayed with the kids of some pretty famous names and their sporting prowess wasn't at all guaranteed. Off head:
                  - Olympic gold medalist's daughter was a ciggy butt brain. She killed in in primary school then started on the choofs aged ~12 + trained less and never cracked it after that.
                  - Super famous cricket player's son was a short fat guy who hated sport (especially cricket).
                  - Couple of pro rugby players' sons were pretty average.

                      What a demonstrably political comment.

Sorry Johnny but I could have sworn you were the poster who kept going on about Morts should be at 7 not Pearce. I also remember after Morts' first game at half for the Coast you again commented how he should be the Roosters half and not Pearce. I don't know, maybe my memory has gone in my old age but it's just what I seem to recall. If I am wrong I apologise.
